Chapter: 5

The next day came all too quickly. I slept very little last night because of Austin and Mom. I was worried about Mom and her sudden drain of energy yesterday. I know these spells come from out of the blue, but this was sudden.

‘Morning Dad, How’s Mom doing today? Is she feeling better?’ I asked Dad as I was feeding Austin this morning.

‘Good morning, Mellie. Your Mom is still asleep. I’ll check on her after training today. How are you doing today?’ asked Dad.

‘I’m doing good. Why don’t I make breakfast and bring it over to you two. It’s the least I could do for you,’ I suggested to Dad.

‘That would be great, Mellie. Thanks for offering. I need to get to training. I’ll see you afterwards. Okay?’ expressed Dad like he was uncertain on whether or not he should leave Mom at home alone.

‘Dad, Anthony and I are getting ready to walk out the door with Austin. We don’t want you to leave Mom unattended while you are at training. I’ll stay with her. I will keep watch over her, so you don’t have to worry. Okay, we are walking out the door now. See you in a minute,’ I advised him as I ended our link.

We walked the short distance from our house to Dad’s house. Dad met us at the door; we didn’t even have to knock. Dad helped me get settled in while Anthony put the eggs, bacon, sausage, and pancake mix in the kitchen for me so I could make breakfast for everyone here instead of at our place.

After Dad and Anthony had left, I went up to check on Mom. She was still asleep. I left her after I kissed her gently on the cheek. I wasn’t surprised when Dad came back from training sooner than expected. Alpha Richard knew Mom was having one of her spells and sent Dad home to take care of her. I told Dad to go ahead and take his shower while I prepared breakfast.

Anthony showed back up at Dad’s house twenty minutes later, dressed in casual business clothes and ready for work. I had breakfast ready for everyone. Dad woke Mom up so she could eat a hot breakfast. Mom and Dad came into the kitchen to eat breakfast. Mom looked exhausted, like she hadn’t had any sleep in weeks. I made sure to give Mom everything she needed so she wouldn’t have to get up.

“Thank you, Melanie, for making breakfast this morning. This is a treat. What did I do to deserve such treatment?” wondered Mom.

“Don’t you deserve to be spoiled every now and then, Mom?” I replied to her. “You make meals for us all the time. You deserve someone making you a meal for a change. How did I do? Is it almost as good as yours, Mom?” I wondered.

“This is good, Melanie. I taught you well, and you know it. I don’t want to be a burden to anyone,” Mom declared.

“You aren’t a burden to anyone,” declared Danny as he walked through the front door along with Rebecca and Hunter.

“Hey, I didn’t know you were coming this morning, or I would have made enough for you as well,” I exclaimed as I got up to hug and kiss my brother.

“No worries. We already ate breakfast. We were worried about Mom and thought we needed to come over to see her and maybe keep her company today,” Danny explained to everyone.

“Hmm, looks like we all had the same idea,” I observed as we all went into the living room after we finished breakfast.

Rebecca helped me to clean up the kitchen. Mom was made to sit in the living room and was not allowed to clean up the kitchen. Not this time, anyway. Rebecca and I made quick work of the dishes.

Dad had already made a decision that he was going to take Mom to see Dr. Adams at the pack hospital for a check-up. We all agreed that that would be a good idea. We all kind of wanted to be there for moral support, but it would be kind of crowded in her room if all of us were there the whole time. Dad said that Danny and Rebecca could stay and Anthony and I could be at the pack house while she was being examined. Okay, problem solved.

Anthony and I went home so I could shower and change my clothes. I needed to look like I worked for a living. My wolf was definitely antsy today. She was worried about her mother. She wouldn’t settle down, and since she couldn’t shift, she kept pacing in my mind, which was driving me nuts. I was starting to get a headache just from her pacing.

I packed the diaper bag with enough diapers, burp cloths, extra clothes, extra bottles, formula, etc. for Austin and even an extra outfit for me just in case my headache doesn’t subside from my wolf’s pacing.

‘Anderson, Noah, Tucker, and Jared, we have a slight change in plans today. We are working from the pack house, but we may be going to the pack hospital as well. My Mom is having one of her spells. She is very weak. My wolf is very antsy, and since I cannot shift, she is pacing around in my head. I am getting a headache. I have Austin with me today, along with everything I might need. I need you all to plan accordingly. We will be leaving for the pack house in twenty minutes, so be ready,’ I commanded through our link.

‘Yes, Delta Melanie,’ they replied in unison.

‘Anderson, I need to speak with you and Kayla today in my office. Please let me know when it will be convenient,’ I commanded.

‘Yes, Delta Melanie,’ replied Anderson.

Okay, now that I had issued everyone’s marching orders, I just had to finish packing the diaper bag and make sure I didn’t forget anything. Okay, if I forgot anything, I’ll send someone home to get it. No worries.

The only thing I needed to worry about was my Mom. She is the only thing we needed to worry about today. Oh, and getting my wolf to stop pacing around in my head. She’s driving me crazy.

The pack house was bustling with activity when we arrived, which is normal for first thing in the morning. We made our way to our office and began to work when Alpha Richard requested our presence in his office. I reminded him that I had Austin with me today, and he said to bring him with. Okay, no problem.

Anthony knocked on the door, and Alpha Richard called out, ‘Come in,’ so Anthony opened the door for us. I pushed the stroller in so we could have our meeting.

“Good morning, Delta’s Melanie and Anthony, and Delta Heir Austin. I trust you are having a delightful morning. How’s your Mother doing, Melanie? Any news yet?” inquired Alpha Richard.

“No news yet, Alpha. Our morning is going smoothly so far, and I hope it continues that way. If I can just get my wolf to stop pacing around in my head, my headache won’t progress any further than it already is. That would be fantastic,” I answered him.

“Yes, that would be fantastic. Anthony told us you had a headache. What can we do to help you today? Hmm?” inquired Alpha Richard.

“I don’t really know Alpha Richard. My wolf is antsy because of Mom. She wants to help Mom, but she can’t really do anything to help Mom. She wants to shift, and she can’t because of the twins. Working right now and being distracted is the only thing that’s helping me. Although, I am getting hungry. I just wish Dad would let us know something,” I honestly answered him.

“I understand, Melanie. Until Dr. Adams comes to a determination, nobody knows anything. We just have to be patient. Why don’t you go down to the kitchen to get something to eat? I’m sure there are lots of people who would love to see Austin. Maybe that would help take your mind off of things for a little bit. What’ll you say? You can also get a snack,” offered Alpha Richard.

“Sounds like a plan. Thank you, Alpha Richard, for suggesting that to us. Also, Alpha, we talked it over with Mom and Dad this past week that Mom won’t be able to handle three babies after the twins are born. We need to start a Nanny search. I feel a little out of my league on this. Do you have any recommendations? I was thinking about Kayla, who was mated to one of my guards—Anderson. What do you think?” I inquired.

“Well, that would be a logical recommendation. Have you asked her about it yet?” asked Beta Micah.

“No, I was going to run it by her today,” I replied.

“Well, if she says she would want to do it. I would say, why not, especially since she is one of your best friends already,” replied Alpha Richard.

“That’s what I was thinking,” I shared with everyone in the room.

“Okay, so go get something to eat. Send for Kayla and see what she says. I think we need to find a Nanny for you as soon as possible. We need to take as much responsibility off of your Mom as possible,” declared Alpha Richard.

“Yes, Alpha,” I replied.

Anthony and I left his office. We went in search of food and relaxation. I needed to take something for my headache, and I needed to hear something about my Mom---some good news about Mom.
