A place where everything is mysterious,...
Chapter 1: Karma
My name is Karma.
I will try to make this quick as to not bore any of you, but before I get into the interesting and 'mysterious' part of my life story, I think it would be fitting to introduce myself.
As I mentioned earlier, my name is Karma. No, not that kind of Karma as you all know but rather Karma as a name. I know it's a very weird name but well, my dad knows best, I guess?
My name is Karma Thompson to be exact. I have a light skin complexion. I am 18 years old but I'll be 19 next month. And I'm not too skinny neither am I fat,,, I'm just moderate. Just so you know, I look bigger for my age. I get that all the time so don't rub it on my face.
I live with my dad, Mr Liam Thompson. My mom died when I was born, and I've never been to her grave before, but that's fine with me. My dad hates talking about it, and I try not to either, because it just puts him in a sour mood. We live in Las Vegas. Well we just moved here two years ago and we've lived here ever since. There's nothing much to say about the place. It's a big city and boring. Does that count?
I got a good education, made some friends and enjoyed myself for the most part. The only thing Las Vegas haven't provided for me was excitement, or freedom. I've never really experienced an adventure, and I guess you could say that's a dream of mine now. To go on an adventure.
Things started getting weird when I clicked 17. When I told father about the strange things happening to me, the only thing he said was; 'It is time.'
It was very confusing to hear him say that but he never said a thing after that.
I thought he'd forgotten about it until....
★★★★
I was sitting on the couch, eyes glued on the kdrama playing on the TV as I ate my favorite cereals. Yes I love kdrama and can definitely do anything to watch every episode of every movie...Wait, does that make any sense?
I was so lost in the drama that I didn't hear father calling until I felt someone's hand on my shoulder.
I flinched, accidentally throwing the bowl of cereals in my hand and watched as it spilled out and hit the tiled floor.
“Dad...” I groaned, staring up at him.
He grinned sheepishly, knowing just what he'd done. “Sorry.”
I grabbed the remote control and paused the movie. “Need me for something?”
He shook his head. “Actually no. But,” He handed me a brown envelope and sat down beside me on the couch. “The letter came for you specifically.”
A letter?
Who uses letter this days?
And why will a letter come for me?
I confusedly and suspiciously collected the letter from dad. “From who?”
He shrugged. “I didn't look.”
I tore open the envelope and brought out the letter, I don't know why but I felt somehow connected to just this piece of paper.
Stupid, right?
I was hesitant to read the letter, though I don't even know what it was all about.
“Why are you hesitating?” Dad asked, probably curious to know what's in the letter or better still know who sent the letter.
“I don't know.” I whispered. “Are you sure this letter isn't for you?”
“Look,” Dad waved the torn envelope in my face where I saw my name boldly imprinted on it. “Does this look like my name?”
~KARMA THOMPSON.
DO NOT OPEN OR READ UNLESS YOU ARE THE PERSON NAMED.
Now I see why he didn't open the letter before bringing it to me first.
When it comes to be nosy,,,dad has a huge talent for it.
“But why will a letter be sent to me? Neither of my friends use this form of communication. In fact no one uses this kind of communication. Technology has made it easier for everyone.”
“Sweetheart, the answer lies in your hand. Just open up this letter and see what's in there.” Dad advised.
I nod. “You're right.”
I took in few deep breaths as I peeled the letter open and read;
•Dear Karma,
It is utmost joy and excitement to me that I welcome you to DarkLight Academy. Along with 19 others of your age, you are hereby permitted into the halls of our school.

Wait, what's going on?
DarkLight Academy?
Magic?
Potentials?
Immortal?
Dangerous?
What the hell was this letter talking about!?
And how did I get admitted to an academy I know absolutely nothing about?!?
I didn't take their exams and neither do I possess any magical powers to be needed in their academy.
This was obviously a letter sent to the wrong person because I didn't apply.
And what? Magic? Shit like that don't even exist! I'm not a fan of fantasy or supernatural bullshit. It's literally why I hated Fantasy movies like; Upside down magic, Fantasy island, bureau of magic things, the supernatural, spider man and so many more.
I sighed, folding up the letter and dropped it down on the table in front of me.
“Well?” Dad pressed on.
I shrugged. “There's an error from the postman.”
“What do you mean?” Dad asked.
“This letter was sent to another Karma Thompson and not me.” I stated.
“Uh...that didn't help in any way.”
“It's an admission letter to a school named DarkLight Academy for magical beings,” I started laughing. “Can you even imagine? Magic?” I scoffed. “Those are just fairytale which definitely do not exist.” I sighed as I started cleaning up the mess I caused for no reason. No thanks dad. “Maybe it's just a prank.”
Dad snatched the letter and glanced over it.
“It's not a prank.” He said.
“What?”
“You may have unknowingly applied,”
“What...do you mean?” I stopped what I was doing and paid my full attention on him.
He dropped down the letter and shrugged. “I applied for you.”
“What?”
“I said I applied...”
I cut him off. “I heard what you said the first time b...b...but, why?” I shook my head. No, that shouldn't be the right question to ask. “What's DarkLight Academy? Does such shit even exist? Are you joining forces with my friends to prank me? If yes, please stop because it's not getting funny.” I got up to my feet and went closer to the window. “Nice one guys, you've won. Now stop the prank and show your faces.” I declared even when the compound was as silent as a graveyard.
Dad came to stand behind me. “It's not a prank, sweetie. I really applied for you to start schooling there.”
“What!?” I snapped. “This makes absolutely no sense! What magic are they talking about because clearly,” I spread out my arms to make my point clear. “I possess no stupid magic!”
“Remember you said you've been acting pretty strange, right?”
I thought he had forgotten about it until tonight. I came to realize that he never actually forgot about it,,,he was only waiting for me to get admitted to this 'Academy' which by the way sounds very creepy.
“What does that have to do with magic, dad? How am I dangerous to humans? What's going on?” I was almost at the verge of tears which was very stupid.
But well there's a teeny tiny problem about me....I cry easily. My form of happiness was tears, my form of pain was tears, my form of being sleepy was tears, my form of sadness was tears, my form of anger was still tears,,,should I keep going on and on? Trust me you will likewise be in tears if I go on and on.
Dad let out a deep sigh. “You...there are some things you are yet to find out about yourself, Karma.” He said.
Like what? My weird name?
“Dad, I've stopped feeling strange. And besides feeling like I can move the mountain by saying a few word doesn't mean I'm a magician or I possess magical powers.” I pointed out.
“You think?”
Okay, moving a mountain by only saying a word does sound magical.
“But I didn't move a mountain!” I almost snapped.
“You will,,, soon.”
I groaned. “This is stupid. I can't believe I almost fell for this shit. DarkLight or whatever academy it's called... I'm not going.”
“Karma, this is for the best.” Dad said in a low voice.
“For the best?” I scoffed. “Why? Because I might be dangerous to humans?”
“Of course not.”
“Then what?!?” I snapped out in anger and frustration. “I am human. I don't have any dumb stupid magic. Beside how can I be a magician when my both parents are simple humans, does that even make any sense at all?”
Dad went stiff at the 'my both parents.' part. Which kinda look very suspicious.
“Life is magical.”
“Bullshit!”
“Karma,” He called sternly.
“Dad, I can't...” I stared at the table at the center of the cozy living room “Table come to me,” I stared at it but nothing happened. “You see? I have no damn magic in me!”
“Kar...”
“I'm not going, dad and that's final!” I walked past him and ran upstairs to my room.
I slammed my door shut as I walked in and fell straight on my bed, staring up at the ceilings.
Why will father do this to me?
Why will he want to chase me out of his life by using this dumb school as an opportunity?
And what stupid magic will I possibly possess?
Arrrrgh, what am I even thinking?
I...
I suddenly felt vibration of something in front of my door.
I quietly stood up to my feet and walked down to the door. I unlocked it and slowly opened it, only to see the table centered in the middle of the living room in front of my door.
What's this doing here?
*Table come to me.* I remember saying that word downstairs just to prove a point to father but...but...it didn't work. Right???
Did dad bring this table up here to manipulate me into thinking I truly possess something from within?
“NOT COOL, DAD!” I yelled at the top of my voice, going back to my room, and shut the door closed.
I almost fell for that...Key word; *Almost*
