Prologue

"They say the best revenge is living well. I say it's acid in the face-who will love them now?"-Mindy Kaling

The rain was slamming against the windshield and the wind was howling incessantly but inside the car, everything was warm and calm. It was her 17th birthday and her two parents were taking her to a place which was still unknown to her.

The family driver was humming the happy birthday tune and it only made her more eager to reach. Although she wanted the driver to accelerate from that slow forty-five miles per hour to something faster, she acknowledged that he was being cautious.

Her father wanted it to be a perfect day and the weather was not a problem. His wife and he were conversing with their daughter, trying to ease her impatience. He had never seen his child so joyful like that before. It was a personal contentment to his own heart. "Henry, how long?"

The driver looked at the rear-view mirror and responded smilingly, "About ten more minutes, Mr Miller! We've nearly re---"

His voice was interrupted by the hands-free Bluetooth system which automatically activated itself and a familiar voice spoke aloud, "You are doomed, my dear friend. Now everything's mine. Goodbye!"

Before they could react in any way at this shocking news, a loud horn coming from their side announced the presence of something else. Two bright lights flashed at their side and impulsively, the driver swerved to avoid the large truck that was blindly heading in their direction. The impact was deafening and brutal and the car effortlessly left the road, tumbled and rolled through the forest that bordered the right side of the slippery road, with each roll damaging it more. It only came to an arrest as it banged against two large trees and fell on all four tyres again in its upright position.

Two men got out of the truck and looked towards the forest. Their job was done. No one would survive this fall. They had to go now before they were caught. They got into their lorry and drove away. A safe distance where they could explode the car with a remote and no one would suspect them.

Inside the car, soft moans and groans were heard. Victoria looked at her mother but could see nothing through this darkness. Her heart was pounding and she was terrified. She sensed an excruciating pain on her shoulder. A sort of liquid was wetting her arm but it was too dark to figure it out. She was feeling dizzy; the world was spiralling in her head and the loud noise still echoed in her ears.

In the background she heard her name being called incessantly and then the disturbing sound grew louder and more urgent, "Victoria, find help. Go now! Get out of here. I love you, sweetie. Go and find help."

She was given a shove and she whispered, still shaken, still horrified, "Dad, I am afraid. Dad, please!"

She then felt a warm trembling kiss on her cheek, "get out of here for my sake. I...I'll help your mom and come. Go!" His voice held panic and worry.

She got out of the car and hassled towards the slight slope. The moonlight was enough and enough and the large trail the car had made was her way to the road. Her flesh scratched against the shrub's thorns as she made her way out and she slipped on the mud but she got up and finally reached the road. She slid painfully in the middle of it, desperately searching for any sign of human life!

She was soaked in that rain and she shouted as loud as she could. Two dim lights approached and grew bigger. She cried her heart, hoping the driver would see her through this thick rain. The car stopped right in front of her. She leaned against it, exhausted and gasped as a man rushed out of the car and exclaimed, "Oh God, did I hit you? Are you fine? Who are you?"

She tumbled in his arms and cried, "Please, my parents are stuck in that car. We had an accident. Help them. I beg you."

As soon as he assimilated the information, the man released her, dashed to his car, took out his phone and spoke after a minute, "This is Commissioner Hyland speaking. We have a grave accident before the roundabout of Prince Road. Come fast."

Hardly did he put down the phone and was about to rush to try and help them when a large flame exploded. It was followed by Victoria's sharp cry before she rushed towards the forest.
