Chapter 5

Emma’s POV

I will not make the same mistakes twice. Yes, he looks remorseful and I think he may have started to get to me. Maybe that is my signal to stay away from him or not be around him for too long but with the situation with Cassandra, we really need to work together.

He caused all of these but maybe I had let my guard down too long. I gestured towards Mia as she handed me a cup of coffee while he took her seat opposite me and began to look through the magazine in front of her.

“What’s that?”

She looked confused as she looked from the magazine in her hands to me.

“What’s what?”

I wasn’t looking at her, I saw someone familiar on the TV behind her, it was Lucas, with Cassandra on his arms, smiling widely as if he had just won a lottery. My heart ached in anger as I fought the urge to rip the TV off the walls.

“Come on, you know what is really going on.”

”Maybe I don’t. Somewhere deep down, I want to believe he is the same old Lucas and he will love me today and come back to stab me in the back tommorow. They do look good together though.”

Of course I don’t believe that. I got out of my seat and began to pace the room until a ko=nock came on my door and Lucas popped in. Mia welcomed in and began to walk out but se stopped to whisper something to him.

“Be careful, she is not in a good mood.”

She began to walk away, “I heard that!” I shouted after her as I took my seat and gestured that Lucas did too.

“Why have you showed up here again?”

”Come on…”

”You keep waltzing into my place of work like you own the place, what’s up with that?”

“I thought we have gone over this already, are you still mad at me?”

”Do you think that is what this is all about? You must be mistaken if that is what you think this is.”

”Then what? I know I hurt you but will you not give me a chance to remedy that mistake?”

“And if I did, you think that will give you a one way ticket back into my life? No, I have suffered beause of you and you know what makes it worse, the fact that I keep seeing your faces together plastered all over the city as the power couple. It makes me sick because she doesn’t deserve all that.”

”But you know if e keep bickering like this, she will still keep getting the respect you think she has and there will be nothing to stop it if we don’t work togther.”

”We will work together but there is no way we would be getting back together.”

“This would never have happened if you didn’t do what you did.”

”I know and I am very sorry about this. Even if I have to apologize for the rest of my life, I will.”

”No, I don’t need your apology. In fact, it is the last thing I need right now and I just want to be alone so go and don’t come back unless we have a good reason to meet.”

”Actually, I have come to ask if you would go….”

“Get out!”

He realized I was not ready to listen to him and that was when Mia came insode with a worried expression, lookimg between me and thee retreating man.

“Are you okay?”

’I don’t know but I can’t just face him right noe. I keepblaming myself because my heart wants to forgive him.”

I sniffled a little, it is hard to bear it because my head knew how much he had hurt me and made me lose everything. I smiled as I tred to regain my composure.

“I shoud go home and take a rest.”

”Or we could go out and have fun>”

She said his with a uggestive tone, one that was dofficuot yo resist.

“I will only agree to this if we invite Sarah.”

”Why Sarah? You know I don’t ike Sarah.”

”Let’s just face it, between the two of us, she is the only one who is reasonable enough to think of safety first.”

“You are no fun, why do we need safety when we want to have fun?”

She whined and I smiled as I put a call through to Sarah. My expression dropped as if topass across spmething and when I dinished the call, I tured to Mia who was looking at me very exoevtantly.

“Looks like Sarah can’t come with us, you got your wish.”

”Ye…!”

I suddenly began to laugh, “She can’t come with u because she wants us to meet her there.”

”Oh no!” Mia frowned and I laughed as we headed out. We usually decide to not take a ride whenever we go on our crazy outing and this one is a club.

As we neared our destination, we reached a quiet alley just before getting to the club which we had plans to go to. It was in the evening already and we would want to leave before the real people who owns the night come around .

“Hy, who goes there.”

A voice called from behind us, fear gripped us as we held ourselves and kept walking without looking back but suddenly, to hefty men appeared in front of us too and began to come towards us.

“It’s you we are talking to.”

“We just wan to get to the club down the street.”

I replied as the eyes of the one who spoke roamed over us with delight evident on his face. His right hand reached to touch my hair but someone held his hands and when we looked up, we saw Lucas, standing dangerously at him.

A look of recognition crossed the eyes of the gangster and they began to run off one after the other.

“A thank you would do.” Lucas joked.

“No, I didn’t ask you to do that.”
