Chapter 1 - Lion's Den

Eis grabbed my arm and pulled me close to her as we sank down into the ocean. She steadied us and put her hand over my chest.

What the hell is going on now?!

The amulet.

The glow started to get brighter. I could feel myself lose energy, but only a little.

Bullets zoomed through the water. All of them whizzing past us. I watched them, my chest now burning from lack of oxygen.

The white light that emitted from my chest engulfed us. In a blink, we were in a totally different location.

I was surrounded by a cascade of different shades of Blue's with swirling whites. There was a blue crystal chandelier that hung over a grand staircase. The floor was white and black marble. It was almost the complete opposite of Raven's mansion. Her place had a more medieval vibe. This place was as though modern royals lived here.

This is the most beautiful lion's den I've ever seen.

"Well...What now?" I asked, turning to Eis. I could hear my heart beating in my ears waiting on a response. She stayed silent for a moment. Examining me. She tilted my head, to reveal where I had been bitten only hours prior.

"There's a video I'd like you to watch." She finally replied.

She started walking towards the staircase, but she didn't grab me. She just started walking.

I bet it's a puppy getting killed or something.

Slowly, I followed behind her.

Ashley, are you still able to hear me?

No answer.

Great, guess this situation was too much.

Walking down the halls I couldn't help but admire how beautiful this place was. The hallways donned a white and gold theme to them. I noticed almost immediately there were no windows. But instead, beautiful murals littered the walls.

Angels littered the walls. Closer to the top of the wall, there was a power struggle between groups of angels. The ones on the clouds pushing angels below into a gray dim sky. There was one angel that stood out. One wing touching the cloud, still trying his best to fight off the other angels. One wing dipped into the clouds, while the other dipped into the gray abyss below. The wing touching the cloud was white, while the other black.

That is an awfully big painting of Lucifer....

Most of the murals we passed depicted Lucifer in some way. Which did not help my anxiety of being inside this new lion's den.

She's going to force me to watch one of her ritualistic sacrifices. Oh god.

Soon enough we entered a room. It was pretty big, and it was what appeared to be a bedroom.

This must be her room...

The floor of this room was Blue carpeting. The walls looked like splatter paint of various shades of blue with some white speckled in.

The bed was a simple Blue. but, it looked super soft.

Bet I'm in her bed at the end of the day.

Across from the bed, there was a couch and glass coffee table. Facing the couch was a rather large T.V.

Eis sat down on the couch, she lifted her hand and motioned me to go over to her. Reluctantly, I did.

I sat next to her on the couch, but I sat as far away as possible. Still unsure what she was up to. Then, she clicked play on the big screen.

"I need her gone!" A familiar voice played over the TV.

Is that?

Then, a clear view of Katie's face came into view. She was talking with the maid that almost tried to kill us.

I felt Eis's eyes burning into me. Unfortunately, I couldn't peel away from the screen in front of me.

What the fuck?

"Patience darling, patience. Here, Eis told me to give you this locket." The maid said, handing her the piece of gold jewelry.

"If anything goes wrong, push the button hidden inside." she instructed Katie.

"And this will ensure Ashley's disappearance?" Katie's words struck a nerve, deep inside. Though I knew she wasn't to be trusted I still was the one who needed to tell Ashley.

Knew there was a reason I didn't particularly like her.

"It will give away the location of the mansion to Eis. Her men will swoop in, and take her if this plan fails."

Katie nodded acknowledging the rest of the instructions.

"Good, she's been a little bitch. I have to pretend to like her, Raven already made that clear with me." She huffed taking a swig of whatever alcohol she had in her hand.

Then, the video stopped. Each word Katie said sank into my chest like knives, thinking about how Ashley would react. I didn't let it affect me though, especially something I had already seen coming.

"So then..why did she kill the maid?" I asked, turning to Eis.

"I wanted to know if she would be loyal. Hold up our little deal. That 'maid' originally was just to place me in contact with Katie. Then, I learned of a wonderful special new pet Raven had suddenly acquired. One that couldn't particularly be killed. See, I don't know if she ever told you or not. But the pets prior..."

"Right, the ones who died."

Eis chuckled.

"Died? Katie murdered them. In cold blood. All for the so-called love for her Mistress. But,

once a certain someone who apparently couldn't drown; even after being submerged for ten minutes.....

I placed a maid into Raven's service and it all fell into place. Katie took the bait. But, I needed to know she was loyal to me. Truly wasn't going to rat me out. So, I ordered her to kill the maid if she tried to hurt you. And I ordered the maid to try and cut the amulet out of you. Knowing, she obviously wouldn't succeed."

Evil fucking genius.

I was at a loss for words at this point. In life, I've been through so much already but this really took the cake.

"You're probably starting to wonder about living arrangements?"

"Are you going to force us to be your pet?" I asked, placing my hand on my knee trying to find a comfortable position.

"No. I don't like the idea of forcing anyone to be something they don't want to be."

"What about maids?"

"They're paid here. I don't fancy keeping slaves and treating people like shit."

Well well, Ashley is certainly going to love her...

"Okay, but what was all that 'I'm going to take your pets' thing all about?"

"Did I lie? I took you didn't I? And I already have Katie under my thumb. Poor stupid girl is easily manipulated."

"Alright...so, then, what do we expect? Obviously, we're here for a reason. Otherwise, you'd have killed us by now. Yes?"

Eis nodded. "Smart girl. But what I want will come in time. For now, you have to learn to use the amulet. You're much more useful to me alive than dead. I can teach you to use it. Has Raven even told you about what it is?"

I shook my head.

"We took it upon ourselves to learn what it was...But we don't know how it got there or where it came from. Raven wasn't going to let us know had we not broken into her computer."

Eis chuckled.

"You were able to get into raven's computer? I thought it was supposed to be the most advanced security system on the planet." She laughed loudly.

I glanced around uncomfortably as she joked.

"Oh common, I'm sure you get the reference."

I forced a small chuckle.

Overwatch reference. Cute.

Eis grabbed my chin, and looked me in the eyes for a moment. Causing my anxiety to shoot up even more.

She sat there and stared at me in silence for a few moments before speaking again.

"This must be very hard on your mental state. I'll give you a few days to adjust before we start your magical training. I need you to know first though, I'm not going to hurt you. It may not mean much coming from me but I don't believe in treating the people under my roof like shit. This isn't going to be like living with Raven. There's limited staff here. You won't have a bodyguard watching your every move. I only have a few maids and they will not know you are here. At all. I'm keeping it that way for....obvious reasons. If you need anything, just hit this button and I'll attend to your needs."

Eis said, pulling a remote out of her pants pocket.

I took the remote into my hand and nodded, showing her I understood.

"Am I...allowed to leave the room?" I asked her.

She took a deep breath and nodded slightly

"Yes and no. If you need to leave the room for a walk, I'll be happy to walk with you. I'm not going to sit here and pretend I'm not still your jailor. It is for security reasons. The door will lock automatically when I leave so you won't be able to get out."

I looked at the ground and nodded again. Eis got up off the couch and started walking towards the door.

"I'll check in with you every so often to see how you're doing. Don't be afraid to ask for anything. Food, a drink. Tampons. Whatever. I'll get it for you." She said before leaving.

I sat there with nothing but my own thoughts. Trying to process the situation.

She seems kind...but it does not sit right with me.
