Chapter 1

I slit my wrists and watched the blood flow profusely, smiling contentedly.

Before doing so, I sent Victor a message. "Victor, I owe you nothing now."

Victor frantically came looking for me.

The moment he opened the door, he did not notice my bloody wrists but instead frantically checked on my barely conscious body, his tone icy. "Good, the kidneys are undamaged."

"Make sure she lives!"

I knew his cousin needed my kidneys.

I could not die.

He squatted down, grabbed my chin harshly, and hissed, "Irene, you belong to me."

"Did you think you could die without my permission?"

...

After the family doctor bandaged my wrists, he turned to Victor. "Mr. Lewis, Miss Gibson is out of danger for now."

Victor leaned on the sofa, lazily waving his hand.

The doctor left, closing the door behind him.

The room fell into an eerie silence.

I stood on the side, barefoot.

Suddenly, Victor stood up and swiftly grabbed my neck, pinning me against the wall, his tone vicious. "You want to die?"

I did not resist.

His grip tightened, and I struggled to breathe.

Suddenly, he released me, staring directly into my eyes, which were bloodshot. "Irene, even though your father died in a drunk driving accident, the contract we signed still stands."

He raised his hand, gently tapped my cheek, and said coldly, "You want to leave, even to die?" He paused for a moment and continued, "Don't even think about it."

My father was a gambler who had a lot of deb. To repay these debts, he tricked me into signing an indenture contract with the Lewis Group.

After finding out, Victor had a huge argument with his father.

Later, upon seeing me, Victor changed his mind. "Since the contract has been signed, it can't easily be changed."

He was captivated by my appearance.

My father had said I inherited my mother's unparalleled beauty.

Victor lazily walked back to the sofa and sat down, commanding as usual, "I'm hungry. Go make me something to eat."

He still thought he could control me, forcing me to cook and clean for him without complaints.

My tone was icy. "I won't do it."

My father was dead, and I no longer felt the need to appease him. Over the years, I had been not only a maid but also a companion at night. I had always thought there would come a day when I could buy my freedom.

Little did I know, Victor’s cousin who had returned from studying abroad targeted me at every turn, finding me displeasing.

Her relative had developed uremia, and just my luck, my kidneys were a match.

I refused.

Though I had sold myself to the Lewis family, the contract specifically stated that I was only to take care of Victor's daily needs.

In this life, I had already wronged this body of mine. How could I let them get their way and watch them take my kidneys?

The sound of a wine glass shattering echoed.

Victor sat coldly on the sofa.

In the past, I would have been trembling, terrified that angering him might bring harm to my father.

But not this time.

"Victor, don't even think about taking my kidneys," I declared. Over the years, how had he treated me? I felt like an object to be used and discarded.

And now, he wanted my kidneys to save his bitchy cousin's relative.

He probably never expected me to stand up to him, given how I had always been submissive over the years.

Victor lit a cigarette, the smoke swirling around him, his voice calm and unhurried, seemingly unaffected. "Irene, don't forget during the contract period, you are mine."

He turned, staring at me with a cold snort. "How are you going to repay the huge debt?"

He stood up and slowly approached before he continued, "Oh, right, you don't have the money for your father's funeral, do you? Tsk, it's sad how your father lived in such humiliation, and now, no one will even claim his body."

I clenched my fists in anger.

My mother died when I was young, and though my father was a gambler, he was the one who raised me alone.

I was his beloved daughter. He always thought of what I would like to eat and spent time with me.

Now, I couldn't even scrape together enough money to claim his body after his unexpected death.

Victor pulled a wad of bills from his wallet and tossed them at me.

The money was scattered all over the floor.

He moved closer, hooking a finger under my shoulder strap, saying, "Don't want to cook in the kitchen? Fine, then don't."

He pointed towards the bathroom, his voice chillingly detached. "Go take a shower and then serve me in bed."
