Chapter 1
That day, I was mistaken for a mentally ill person and taken away.
Yet, I couldn't prove that I was normal!
It was a day off, and I had planned to stock up on some household supplies at a nearby supermarket.
Suddenly, two men wearing masks rushed out and grabbed my hands.
Instinctively trying to break free, I exclaimed, "Who are you? What do you want?"
Without a word, they tried to drag me to an ambulance parked at the roadside.
In that instant, I remembered a news story I had seen before.
The news had mentioned that criminal gangs were now abducting people off the streets into ambulances.
It seemed I might have fallen victim to such a plot!
The commotion attracted the attention of many bystanders.
I was firmly restrained by them, unable to break free.
I quickly cried out for help. "Help! Call the police! These two are criminals. They're trying to kidnap me!"
A young woman nearby couldn't stand by any longer and reached for her phone to call the police.
A doctor in a white coat stepped out of the ambulance.
He smiled and intervened, "Folks, don't worry. We are from Newton Psychiatric Hospital. She is a patient of ours who sneaked out while we weren't looking."
"We've already informed the police, asking them to help find this patient."
As they heard "Newton Psychiatric Hospital", the faces of the crowd changed instantly, and their looks towards me grew more fearful.
I had heard of this psychiatric hospital before.
It was said that the mentally ill confined there were extremely violent and bloody, and there had been numerous incidents in the past where patients had escaped and caused harm or self-harm on the streets, creating quite a stir.
Over time, this hospital had become a taboo among the local citizens, all deeming it ominous.
But I was just a worker who had come from another place, definitely not mentally ill!
I vehemently argued, "They're lying! I am not mentally ill!"
Hearing this, the young woman who was about to call the police looked at them warily.
"No way. What if you really are kidnappers pretending to be doctors? We must call the police!"
