chapter 1

POV of Alison

When I first heard a music, I was merely waiting for the sun to set while seated on the balcony chair.

I overheard my mother and my sister Sabeth singing, "Happy birthday to you... Happy birthday to you... Happy birthday, happy birthday... Happy birthday Ali."

I got up from my chair and smiled as I welcomed them.

She wished me a happy birthday and said, "Ali, make a wish."

I did as Mom said and carefully closed my eyes to make a wish; if I could have one wish come true for my birthday, it would be to be able to celebrate with my entire family.

Every time I think of my wish, which I make multiple times a year for my birthday, I can't help but feel depressed because it hasn't materialized yet. Hey!

My birthday is today, but even though I opened my eyes and blew out the candle, I don't feel 20.

You ought to be pleased because it is your birthday, Mom stated.

You're being pushy, Mom, I responded with a chuckle, "I haven't celebrated a birthday in a long time.

You should celebrate your birthday regardless of whether your parents are present, daughter, as it only occurs once a year.

As I turned to face Mom, I pretended to grin.

If only my family wasn't complete, I would accept that birthday, Mom.

Since I was 7 years old, I've been unable to have my birthday with my parents since they are constantly taking care of the business and don't have time for me. I believe they have forgotten about me.

Without Mom, I may have been a renegade as an adult and only called a bar my home. She is who I name my mother because she raised me. She always comes over when I'm sick, and she takes my parents' place when there is a family program at school.

"My dear, always choose to be happy, no matter what problems, trials, and sorrows come into our lives," she said.

Despite the constant pain I felt, I embraced Mom firmly because I had no idea where to turn or who to turn to for support. However, Mom is still there for me, so I'm still grateful.

We arrived home from sister Sabeth's residence at 10 o'clock, and Lito served as our driver. I suppose I should just believe that my parents have forgotten me because the entire mansion is quiet and it is evident that they haven't returned from work yet. After all, they don't even remember my birthday.

I said, "Sabeth, I'm going to rest," as I bid her farewell.

"Yes, Iha, I'll just put the food away and rest," she replied.

To rest, I ascended the stairs to the bedroom. Even though there was no birthday greeting from my parents when I arrived in the room, I quickly searched through my pocket for the smartphone. Was that company really so essential, and they had also abandoned me, I wondered as I did so.

I took a long breath before deciding to have a quick half bath, after which I changed into my pajamas and stretched out on the bed.

I awoke early the following morning as a result of the sun's brilliant rays striking my skin. I checked my phone, which was resting on top of the side table, to see if Mommy had left me a message, but there wasn't one, so I was just upset. I waited for them to wish me a happy birthday yesterday throughout the entire day, even if it was just through a message, but nothing happened; they seemed to have forgotten about me.

I got out of bed, walked downstairs to eat breakfast, and then I went to the bathroom to wash up.

When I entered the dining room, I said, "Good morning, sister Sabeth."

She smiled and added, "Good morning, too. I made you your favorite fried rice with fried eggs, eat now.

I replied by grinning at sister Sabeth before adding rice to the plate and taking a dish to eat because I was starving, especially after skipping dinner the previous evening.

Feel free to inquire, "Sister Sabeth, did Mommy and Daddy come home last night?"

Sister Sabeth shook her head and gave me a dejected look.

It appears that my parents have completely forgotten about me.

Even though I wanted to cry inside, I tried to chuckle instead. I just kept eating while doing so.

When someone unexpectedly knocked the doorbell after I had finished eating, I got up from where I was seated rather than waiting for sister Sabeth to answer it. After going to the door to see who had rung the bell, I was startled by what I saw when I fully opened the door.

When I first saw the Att Leo, I was horrified. While Leo is standing at the door with numerous wounds and bruising, particularly on his face. He seems to have sustained severe injuries.

Concerned for their safety, they inquired, "Att. Leo, what happened to you ?"

"Ali," he uttered in a cool voice.

Because of what likely happened to him, it is evident that he finds speaking to be quite challenging. To get him into the house, I quickly allowed him to stand up.

I yelled "Sister Sabeth, help!"

Sister Sabeth was taken aback by Att Leo's demeanor when she entered the living room. Att's wounds need to be treated, so I just told her to bring the first aid kit from my room. After quickly retrieving the first aid equipment, her sister quickly began treating Att. It had only taken a short while.

As I treated him, he mumbled, "Ali, get out of here while it's still early."

"What the hell are you talking about?"

He arrived here bleeding, and now he wants to eject me from my own house. I'm too perplexed by the happenings to make any sense of them.

His words were, "You will only perish if you stay here; your parents are already in serious debt.

How much debt do my parents have, I'm even more puzzled now and I can't understand what's occurring. How did that come about?

I don't understand you, Att.

abruptly, att. He took my hand and gave me a serious look.

He added, "Ali, your firm has been bankrupt for a very long time because your parents are gambling addicts, they owe a lot to the bank, and now they are being charged, including the syndicates they owe.

He continued, "I know you're still confused right now, but you need to leave first."

What I learned today startled me because I had assumed that my parents were focused on running the business; however, it turns out that they were actually gambling and had completely forgotten about me. What's going on in our family at the moment is unbelievable.

"Mommy, Daddy, where are you?"

Att informed Ali, "Your parents are hiding and I don't know where they are right now."

Are they evading you? However, they left me alone. Although now is not the time for me to harbor resentment at my parents, the heaviness inside of me is so great due of what they are doing that I'm not sure I can bear it.

similarly to what att said. In order to protect me and stay out of my parents' trouble, we departed the estate. I'm 20 years old, but I didn't know they were gamblers; they led me to assume they were preoccupied with the business when they weren't.

For the time being, I will prioritize taking care of Mom while sending Sabeth back to her province; this will be preferable than her being here, especially since I do not yet have a wage for her.

Mom questioned, "Are you ok?

I'm here on the balcony, lamentably watching the sun set. I shook my head and cast a dejected glance at Mom.

Mom, I asked, "With all the people in the world, why did this happen to our family?

That's how life is, full of difficulties and tribulations, but I know you can get through it, she answered.

Knowing where my parents are right now, I gave my mother a hug and she returned it. I hope my parents are doing well.

Att. asked, "Nena, is it alright with you that Ali be here with you first?" to mom.

No problem, Att, if she gets here before me, the better, said Mom.

I just silently observed the talk between Mom and Att from a distance. She claimed that she made anttempt tto oget tintnouch hith Att. But my parents claim that you can't get in touch with them. How are they doing right now? I hope everything is good.

Att also glances at me, saying, "This is only temporary Nena, the situation is too chaotic." in a dejected manner

I feel like I'm too young to handle this problem, I have no idea how to deal with it on my own, and I have no idea where to look for my parents.

Att completed the process quickly. I stayed at home since he promised to continue looking for my parents, so I sat in the living room contemplating how I could aid in their quest. However, how can I do that when the creditor is also looking for me, according to the att, and my parents?

The only other person I saw in the kitchen when I stepped in to help Mom prepare our lunch was Gigi, her youngest sister

I asked, "Gigi, where's Mom?"

In a modest tone, Alieson asked, "sister, why did she just buy something outside?"

Nothing, I see.

Until it occurred to me to return to the mansion, I simply went back to the living room after Mom left. I'm taking a chance by returning to the mansion with Mommy since they might get worried if I'm not there.

I quickly exited the house after removing my money from the bag, and I set out to find a ride. You have to go via the alley to enter them because Mom's house is inside.

When a cab unexpectedly passed by as I emerged from the alley, I instantly stopped it and climbed inside. Mom's house is not very far from where we live, so I arrived at the place where we reside fast.

My eyes were immediately drawn to a sign reading "House for Sale" that was hanging on our gate as soon as I arrived at the front of the estate.

I have a lot of happy memories with my parents in this house, but all of them vanished in an instant, and it appears that the bank has taken possession of our home and is now selling it.

I risked my parents picking me up by sitting outside the gate to our home for an hour. However, they are not there as usual.

When I made the decision to return home as the sun was sinking, I hadn't gone very far when I noticed a white van pull up in front of our house. I quickly hid in a tree to figure out who was in it.

The men in civilian clothing descended a short while later; I noticed their large, heavily tattooed bodies as well as the pistols they were carrying. Att. most likely refers to them. which my parents owe to a syndicate.

I have to get out of here because I don't want that to be my final day on earth if they see me. I whirled around and bolted from the subdivision.
