Chapter One
"Are you ready?" Nathan asked me as we pulled up to his private jet at the airport.
"Yeah." I said, grabbing my purse and climbing out of the black limo.
The two of us headed for his private jet. I had to admit, I had been feeling pretty nervous as this was a big conference. Nathan was giving a presentation and I had stayed up super late to make sure everything was in perfect condition.
Nathan looked at me, his blue eyes were enough to make any girl's knees tremble. But not mine, I had learned to control that within the first two weeks of working for him. I was his assistant, I couldn't work for him and fantasize about him all the time.
"What?" I asked, but knew what he was looking at. I wasn't exactly wearing work-appropriate attire. But I had overslept and had only had five minutes to throw on some clothes, and throw my hair into a messy bun.
He smiled. "Nothing. You look comfortable is all."
"I am comfortable. Don't worry, I plan on changing into appropriate attire at the hotel." I said, still unsure if his comment was an insult or not. He was a hard one to judge.
We climbed onto the jet and sat down in our seats. I loved flying in the jet, it was so much more comfortable than flying on a commercial flight. Though, I still had never flown first class. When I started working as Nathan's assistant at King Industries two years ago, he had already had his private jet.
"Champagne?" One of the stewardesses, Brittany, asked.
"Yes, thank you." It wasn't even noon yet and I was accepting a drink. I was fully aware of how that looked. But I needed something to calm my nerves. The champagne was crisp and the bubbles hit my nose as I sipped it.
Nathan always knew the best alcohol's. Never settling for anything less than perfect.
Nathan raised his eyebrow at me and I shrugged. I buckled up as the pilot announced the weather and what time we should be landing in Vegas. I was excited. I hadn't been to Las Vegas in a few years. The last time I went it was a drunken blur. I had gone with my best friend Courtney and our boyfriends at the time. Both of whom we found out was cheating, with each other, a month later. We still laugh about it to this day.
The plane took off a lot smoother than I had expected it to and I leaned my head back, closed my eyes, and allowed the champagne to do it's thing. De-stress me.
"You look relaxed." He mentioned.
I opened one eye up and looked at him.
"What's that mean?"
"I've just never seen you like this before, is all."
I couldn't' read what he was trying to say. Was he upset about what I was wearing? "I can change in the bathroom if you want?"
"No, no. It's okay, Skylar really. I was just noting something is all."
He was smiling at me. His gorgeous smile. Nathan was New York's most eligible bachelor and I couldn't deny how attractive he was. Hell, I had even had fantasies about the man before I got my job working for him. Landing this job was a dream come true and completely expected. But I quickly learned to keep everything to myself. Nothing was ever going to happen between us.
