A FEW YEARS AGO…
“What's the meaning of this? She is your daughter!” Aunt Maggie complained.
“She is a human, sister. Keeping her with us in our world will be dangerous for her.” Roanna opined.
“Don't give me that kind of excuse! You are only worried about your reputation!” Maggie snapped.
“Maggie, it isn't like that.” Harven defended.
“I've had many years of experience, even as a human. Why can't you be patient? Am I not a human too?” Maggi asked.
She couldn't see why they wouldn't watch the baby and see what she was capable of doing.
“We're sorry, but we have no choice. If the witches and demons find out that our successor is human, and without powers, the magical realm will be in grave danger. They may come after her as well, let her stay with you, at least for a little while, let's see if her powers will surface.” Roanna sighed.
She wasn't happy letting her daughter go just like that. She wiped a loose tear from her eyes and sniffed.
“Please take care of her for us. We love her so much, this is just for her own good.” Harven said as they vanished.
Maggie looked at the baby in her arms.
“It's me and you now.” She sighed.
***********
Cassie rolled in her bed with a beautiful smile plastered on her face. This could only mean one thing, she was having a dream, a wonderful and special dream, a dream only her knew of, a dream she would always keep to herself then sit in a corner and remember with a smile on her lips.
She smiled broadly, but then, she had to frown as Aunt Maggie's voice came into her sweet dream and pulled her out.
“Not again!” She mumbled and fluttered her eyes open. She sat up in bed and rubbed her eyes, squinting her eyebrows while trying to get used to the brightness.
“Cassie! Don't tell me you're still in bed.” Aunt Maggie yelled from downstairs.
“I'm awake!” Cassie yelled back, so that Aunt Maggie would hear her.
“Good! Now go freshen up, and come back down for breakfast,”
“Okay, Aunt,” Cassie could hear the plates making music in the kitchen. Aunt Maggie was making pancakes. She couldn't wait to taste them. The thought of savoring the deliciousness alone, made her mouth water.
In one swift movement, she got down from the bed and undressed before rushing into the bathroom. 30 minutes later, she was already done with whatever pertained to getting dressed. She wore a blue floral gown. She decided that, since today was her first day, she should at least dress corporately. She packed her hair into a ponytail, and picked up her bag.
“Cassie! Hurry, you're almost late.” Aunt Maggie knocked at Cassie's room door.
“I'm coming.” Cassie replied, and opened the door.
Aunt Maggie sighed and touched her hair. “Hey Cassie, have you noticed that your hair has grown longer?” She asked and Cassie laughed.
“Aunt, it's the first day of school, and you're already asking me such questions.” Cassie chuckled.
“I'm not joking, Cassie. Touch and feel it by yourself. It has also gotten softer.” Aunt Maggie smiled.
Cassie touched her hair and felt it. “Hey, you're right!” She exclaimed.
Aunt Maggie gave her the 'I told you so look.'
“Let's go and have breakfast, I made pancakes!” Aunt Maggie said, and Cassie beamed.
“That's why I love you so much.” She pecked Aunt Maggie's cheek and ran to the dining room, where the table was already set with pancakes and butter mixed with gravy. Cassie licked her lips and started serving herself, before sitting down to eat.
Aunt Maggie joined her on the table, and watched her closely. “Take it easy, dear.” She said as Cassie stuffed her face with pancakes.
“Aunt, you know I am late, so allow me to eat as fast as I can so that I'll be in school in time for the assembly.” She said, and Aunt Maggie laughed.
“Really? Is that the excuse you're going to give me for rushing your food?” Aunt Maggie asked, and she stopped looking then smiled sheepishly. “And you think I'm going to buy that?” Aunt Maggie added.
“I was hoping you would.” Cassie replied and drank water.
Aunt Maggie chuckled. “Are you excited to start school?” She asked.
“I am beyond excited, aunt. I can't wait to make new friends and see cute boys.” She blurted out and covered her mouth after realizing what she had said.
“Cute boys?” Aunt Maggie blinked.
Cassie smiled sheepishly and scratched the back of her head. “Umm… that was a slip of tongue, hehe.” She scolded herself mentally for spurting rubbish. It wasn't her fault, though.
She had heard a lot of things about high schools. The cute and most popular boys always seen as the king of the school and whom every girl wanted to have a taste of, the meanies and spoiled bimbos, who were always in group of threes with one as the leader, who thinks the popular boys were hers, the nerds, football teams, weirdos and of course, the annoying cheerleaders.
She had read about them too and couldn't wait to see if it was true.
Aunt Maggie shook her head and continued eating. After Maggie was done, she packed her plates and took them to the kitchen. She packed Aunt Maggie's plates, too, dropped everything in the dishwasher before returning to the living room, where Aunt Maggie was already waiting for her.
“Come on! Get into the car. We haven't got much time.” Aunt Maggie said and laid the way.
Cassie smiled and followed her to the car. They drove off to her new school, Lake field high school.
********
LAKEFIELD HIGH SCHOOL
Aunt Maggie dropped her off at school and hugged her.
“You look nervous.” She chuckled.
Cassie rubbed her palms together. “Yeah, I am nervous. It's my first day, and I'm uncertain if they're going to like me or just be rude to me. You know, they're numerous bullies in high school,” She sighed. “Why was I even excited in the first place?”
Aunt Maggie held her shoulders and smiled at her. "You're a lovable girl, nice and sociable. Who wouldn't want to be your friend, huh?”
“I don't know. I just feel a bit inferior. This school is dominated by the rich, remember?” Cassie asked.
Aunt Maggie smirked. If she knew who her parents were, she wouldn't even come to this school because it wasn't her level. No one in that was as rich as she was. If only she knew.
“You're rich as well, dear. Forget about that. Whoever refuses to be friends with you is missing out on something spectacular. So, go in there and wow them.” Aunt Maggie pecked her forehead.
“Thank you, Aunt. Love you.”
“Love you more, sweetie. See you at home.” Aunt Maggie hugged her for the last time before entering her car and driving off.
Cassie sighed and entered the hallway. She walked around the halls in admiration. The school wasn't a uniform one, so everyone went around in their muftis.
She logged into the school app on her phone and finally found her class. Written at the top was CLASS B. She walked in, and all eyes were on her.
Creepy! The students started murmuring all at once.
“Newbie, I guess.”
“Didn't she read the school rules and regulations?”
“I doubt it. First day of school and she is already showing off. Hmph!”
“She doesn't look that bad. I think she is going to be competing with Lily very soon.”
“Whatever!”
She thought they were staring and murmuring because she was new but unknown to her, her long hair and eyes were the ones attracting them.
She found it hard to find a seat because no one wanted to sit with a strange girl. A girl whom she later got her name as Crystal, agreed and gave her a seat beside her.
“What is your name?” Crystal asked.
“Cassandra, but you can call me Cassie.” She answered with a smile.
“Okay. My name is Crystal.”
“Nice meeting you.” Cassie smiled.
“Same here,” Cassie smiled. “Quick question, Cassie.”
“Okay?”
“Do you use eye contacts?” Crystal asked.
“No.” Cassie answered.
“Then, why are your eyes blue?” Crystal asked and Cassie flinched.
“Blue?” She asked.
“Yeah. Don't you know that you have blue eyes?” Crystal asked, finding her reaction funny.
“Excuse me.” Cassie stood up and rushed out of the class.
She continued running without turning back or looking at where she was going when she accidentally bumped into someone.
“Hey! Watch where you're going, or don't you have eyes?” Asher, who was the principal's son and the cutest guy in school, asked.
“I'm sorry.” She looked at him and he gasped.
“You have blue eyes.” He smirked.
This was the second person telling her this. She didn't answer but rushed to the restroom.
Asher smirked knowingly and tucked his hands in his pockets.
“She's supernatural.”
