Chapter # 2

Candice POV:-

My heart is thumping out of my chest in terror. I am so scared, just because of a certain someone who thinks if he has money he is superior, my job slipped out of my grasp. What was my fault that he did this to me? What have I done to him, I am not the one who made the coffee. Just because of his short temper I lost my job and I am so scared, what my father would do if he came to know about it. My father is very strict and always ridicules me. I left the hotel and went to a random park to calm the raging fire of hatred and fright inside me. My heart skipped a beat in dread just to think about my father's reaction. Why all rich people think they can do anything with money?!

I wanted to tell my best friend Sophie about what happened but she just got married and I don't want to disturb her. It's her first day of marriage. I don't know what to do.

I sighed as a few tears rolled down my cheek. I covered my face in my hands and let out silent sobs. I am not sad because of the job but to see Father's reaction. His taunts scare me. I wiped my tears and went home. I entered no one's home. My younger brother, Rufus is at work and my Father is at the grocery shop he owns. Even living together we all apart. But I thanks deeply I am alone and no one is home.

I kept cursing that rich man who ruined my day if he has money that doesn't mean he can treat me like trash.

I sighed and called Nicolas,

"Hello.." his voice came. I smiled and replied, "Hey... How are you?" I asked.

"I am fine, what about you?"

"Good... Just missing you and the kids." I said. He chuckled, "We will come to visit when their vacation starts.." he told me.

"I am looking forward to meeting you guys.." We then talked for a while and then Rufus came home so I gotta go. I cut the call and went to greet Rufus.

"Hey, Candice, you're early..." Rufus trailed off, entering and taking off his shoes. He looked like Father, blonde with emerald eyes while I look like my Mother, Raven hairs and Blue eyes. Even that rich guy has light blue eyes and they were beautiful, not to mention but the fact remains he is going to be the reason for the upcoming endless mocks.

"Yeah... I lost my job..." I said, leaning back on the couch. He looked at me concerned and asked, "You okay?" I hummed and laid down. I held my hand out at the ceiling and began to say, "Nothing.. not wanting to see Father.." He came to me and ruffled my hair. "Don't worry, I am here." I smiled and sat up as he sat beside me, "So... how does this happen?" He asked.

"I just served the order, that devil got angry so I told him I am not the one who made this, don't yell at me but he just burst and ... here I am," I told him, laughing emptily a bit. I rest my head on his shoulder and began to sadly,

"I am afraid to see Father's reaction.." He wrapped his arm around my shoulder and said reassuringly, "Don't worry." Even though he is two years younger than me, he always comforts me by saying sweet things. His words gave me moral support.

Night came and Father came home. I took a deep breath and went down to have dinner, "Welcome home, Elmer." I unintentionally called Father by his name which made him furious, "Ungrateful Brat! What did you say!?" He yelled. My breath hitched as I felt so scared. No matter how brave I show myself but from inside a frightened cat and any little thing and provoke my fear. I gulped and timidly took a seat not before mumbling a 'sorry'.

There was a silence between us, we all sat down and began to have dinner in silence, "F-Father.." I called him hesitantly. He hummed and I began to say, "I l-lost my job." He stopped eating and looked at me. I stiff and curled my toes in vexation. He stared at me for a while and scoffed, "Who cares about your money anyways. But keep it in your mind, I won't afford your expenses." He warned. "Father don't be like that. I will help you, Candice." Rufus said.

"Shut up, Idiot!" Father scolded him. He sealed his mouth shut. NO matter what, none of us can't speak in Father's presence. Father spared a last glance at me and mumbled, "She is already 26... Marry her off to someone." My eyes widened in disbelief when I heard it. Every single person ages that don't mean you will marry them off, "I won't marry." I announced.

"I don't need your opinion." He said rudely. I grit my teeth and took my plate and went to my room. I have no intention of going to bed with an empty stomach but his words truly infuriated me.

He cannot do this to me, I will not marry some random guy. If he wants to throw me out he can but well then how he will fulfil the promise he made to my mother? He has to throw me out in a decent way or else he won't forgive himself but I don't think he will take my opinion or consent into consideration before my marriage. If that happened, I swear I will run away or tell Nicolas about it.

Silent tears rolled down my cheek. I tried my best not to cry but it was so hard to contain myself. He just keeps looking for new ways to disown me. I shook my head to let out these thoughts and ate my food trying to belittle his words.

For the next few days, I kept looking for a job and after a week surprisingly I was offered a job as a receptionist in a library with unbelievably good pay for a receptionist, it was odd to get a job like this with such a payment. I couldn't fathom but what I can do anyways, I shouldn't complain and thank God.

"I got a job in a library," I told Rufus happily, sitting beside him.

"You will not get a job bigger than this anyways." Father's mocking voice came from the kitchen. I sighed and shook my head, knowing it's no use talking to him.

I kept working at the library, it was a fine day, I was working earnestly, focusing solely on my work but then the roots of evil decided to show their face to me. I kept smiling forcefully not wanting to ruin my mood by talking to this rich guy who treats other people like trash. And talking the safe side of not angering his Majesty again and lose my ridiculously generous job. I won't let him ruin my job again.

"Do you need anything, Sir?" My voice is already soft and just that his highness might not like it, I made it even softer.

"Call Jasper, tell him Mr Moretti has come." He told me, with his face glued to his phone as always. I nodded and called the owner and upon hearing it, he was so terrified, it seemed like he was a dangerous guy. The way Mr Jasper's face turned pale, alarmed me about the status of Mr Moretti

I looked at his blue eyes, similar to mine, the lighter shade of blue but his eyes somehow shine with his hairs all combed backwards along with a perfect dominating aura, men in black suits around him. He seemed like a high profile guy. His looks can make anyone fall for him. An irresistible beauty, I am not surprised that I am enthralled by his appearance. He is a handsome devil.

He put his phone back and looked at me.

"Great, start of a bad day already." He scoffed and how I forget for a second, the person in front of me don't have any politeness in him. I raise an eyebrow at him, "Excuse me, Sir?" I asked, controlling my urge to slam the keyboard on his face. I value my job or else...

"I am also not dying to see your face," I mumbled to myself. I couldn't hold my need to retort. He opened his mouth to reply but Mr Jasper's voice came. No... I don't want to lose this job as well."Ah, Mr Moretti. Please come. I did what you told me. I gave her the job." The owner said, smiling widely. Who are they talking about? The guy, Mr Moretti's lips curved upward from one side in a smirk. My eyes went wide for a second when I saw that smirk on his appealing feature. My heart skipped a beat when I behold the exquisite before me. His eyes slowly made their way to me, looking intensely at me. My lips formed a thin line as my heart began picking its pace under his piercing gaze. He scanned me, making me uncomfortable and finally a few moments of silence, he spoke up in a charming voice,

"Beautiful receptionist you got there." A shiver went down my spine when I heard it. I quickly averted my gaze as I felt a blush rose to my cheeks. I tucked a strand of my hair behind my ear and focused on my work as all of them left. Who are they talking about anyway?

After he left, I put my hand over my chest and let out a deep breath. How dare he do that. I clicked my tongue in the direction where they left and focused on my work, not wanting to think about it. Letting out the thought I saw an Ancient Greek God.

After work, I got out wanting to go to my home but it was raining heavily outside. My jaw dropped upon seeing it, not knowing what I should do to get out of this, the bus stop is far away and it's not good to drench in rain because of my white shirt. I don't know what I should do. Only if I have taken an umbrella with me.

I stood outside the library for a good two hours, sitting on the stairs, waiting for the rain to finish. I was humming to myself, minding my own business. As I was sitting I saw that guy coming out. He was leaving but he saw me and to boil my blood he stopped and turned to me giving me a look filled with amusement. I hate the look he is giving me.

"I thought a beggar was sitting here." He taunted, taking a step towards me. I smiled venomously at him and retorted, "No need to see yourself in me." He laughed a little and even his voice is enticing. He looked at the rain and said, "The rain's not gonna stop for the next few hours."

"So?" I asked rudely. He looked at me, taking a hint of why I am not going in the rain because if I get drenched, it will be all revealing. Why do I even wear a white shirt!?

"Stay here and enjoy." He scorned. I grit my teeth and turned my head away. He turned to leave but then the Owner's voice came from behind.

"Ah Ms Whale." I turned to look at him and smiled. "Yes?"

"Come I will drop you off. How long are you going to wait?" He offered. I stood up and looked at Mr Moretti victoriously, "Sure." I said sweetly and went with him but before leaving I couldn't help but notice that smile that appeared on his lips but I shrugged it off as nothing.

It was Sunday, I and Rufus came to the mall to buy Rufus some office shirts. After buying some shirts for him and some clothes for myself, we went to the food court to have something. I told Rufus to stay there while I get something to eat. I went get some ice-cream for us but I got a phone call from Father, probably wanting to yell at me.

"Hello, Father?" I picked the call. And his growl told me that I was right. He was filled with extensive fury.

"Where the hell are you and Rufus?" His voice sounded angry. I opened my mouth to reply but I heard another voice.

"...Make him spill out. With or without force. I-" I looked up but it was too late the drink he had with him spill over my dress. I gasped and saw none other than the bewitching charm of bad luck in front of me looking at me with a boring look.

"What the hell was that? Are you blind or what?" I yelled at him.

"Or what." He replied. This guy is ridiculous. "You wasted my drink." He said. He was disappointed. My mouth gasped, "You spilt it over me." I said angrily.

"It's your fault to follow me around." He said nonchalantly.

"You are the one who comes after me and causes nothing but damage to me. You are a bad luck charm!" I sneered at him. "Like you are a fairy." He muttered.

"Better than you!" I replied. He looked at me irritated and said to one of his men, "Get her a dress and me a drink." He was about to walk away but I said, "An apology would be nice, Mr Moretti." He stopped in his tracks and turned to me, "Why would I apologize to you?" He asked, amused.

"For spilling the drink," I said closing my arms at my chest. His minatory eyes scanned me from top to bottom with no emotions as he hummed and left. I looked at him in disbelief, swearing at him in my mind. He is the worst. I grit my teeth, I didn't get the dress he offered and went back home with my day ruined by none other than this Mr Moretti.
