Chapter 4

DORIS

I woke up the following day in a different room.

That wasn't my hostel room. I scanned around

fearfully, praying that I haven't been kidnapped.

The room was executive, with a mammoth bed. The curtains we're already drawn, a beam of

sunlight brightening the whole room.

My phone was on the nightstand charging.

I still had the clothes I had worn the previous day at the party.

The kidnapper, whoever he was must have been filthy rich.

"Where am I?"

I asked myself.

"Anybody there?"

I asked calmly, getting out of the big bed.

I picked my phone and walked towards the door.

Upon turning the lock, it was locked. I couldn't get out.

I was about to shout for help when I heard some footsteps of someone approaching. The door was pushed open and there stood Hakeem, looking all breathtaking in khaki shorts and a sleeveless T-shirt.

I heaved a sigh of relief.

"You are finally awake!"

He exclaimed.

I just nodded.

"where is this place Hakeem? A hotel room?"

He laughed at my naivety.

"Come on baby, this is my house, my bedroom!"

I relaxed a little bit.

"I thought I've been kidnapped!"

"You took in too much wine yesterday night. I had to carry you here."

He was grinning from ear to ear.

"Where's Olivia?" I asked curiously, concern etched all over my face.

"She's still asleep in the guest bedroom. She blacked out on the sofa with a few other friends. I carried her to the guest bedroom."

I let out a heavy sigh of relief.

I was happy that Hakeem had taken good care of us.

The funniest thing is that, I didn't hear myself being carried to the bedroom last night..

All I remembered was Hakeem and I drinking and chatting at the poolside.

I must have taken in a lot of wine!

“The bathroom is on your left. Grab a towel and freshen up."

I did as he ordered.

After freshening up, I found him seated on the bed, scrolling though his phone. I silently thanked

God that I dressed up in the bathroom. When he saw me, he smiled and stood up from the bed.

"Let's go downstairs for breakfast. It way past midday!"

He said, leading me down the stairs.

"What? I exclaimed. “It's Past Midday? I must have been wasted to sleep for that long!"

I exclaimed as followed him downstairs.

Olivia was already downstairs, sitting on the couch watching a programme on the TV.

When she saw us, her face lightened up as she stood up to hug me.

"Hope you slept well baby girl!" She asked me.

"yes I did.” I replied. “What about you?" I asked her.

"I'm fine, as you can see."

"Hey ladies! don't talk here as idiom invisible. I need my hug too!"

Hakeem said, grinning from ear to ear.

Olivia hugged him too and held our hands as he led us to the dining table.

There was sweet aroma coming from the dishes on the table. I couldn't wait to eat because I was already starving.

"Self service ladies!"

Hakeem said.

I picked a serving spoon and served myself a good portion of rice and beef stew.

The rest served themselves as well and we ate silently.

After we were done eating, the house help, an elderly woman whom I had not seen earlier cleared the dishes.

“You have a house help?"

I asked in shock immediately she disappeared out of sight.

"Yeah. She comes in the morning and goes home in the evening. She's my auntie."

I nod in understanding. I didn't expect him to be the one who made that delicious food!

We chatted happily as Hakeem drove us to the hostels.

"I won't get in ladies,I have an appointment to catch."

He hugged me and as I hugged him back, he whispered into ears,

"Think it over,will you!"

I nodded as I chuckled.

I knew what he meant.

As he drove off, I couldn't wait to tell Olivia about his interest in me. After telling her everything, she was happy for me,or so she made me believe!

She encouraged me to say yes to him and I told her I was still thinking about it.

"Hakeem is a nice guy. Many girls wish to have him but he has chosen you. Don't let this

opportunity pass you dear."

It's all she could say.

We slept the whole of that afternoon till evening when we woke up to prepare supper.

the following day was a lazy Sunday. We didn't go to church because we had to clean the house

and do laundry.

Olivia couldn't stop reminding me to say yes to Hakeem's proposal.

She couldn't stop saying

how famous she'll become, having Hakeem as her friends boyfriend.

What I didn't know was that she was inwardly dying with jealous, wishing she was in my shoes!
