Chapter 5: Applying for the job

Finally, she was here! Last night had really been a sleepless night for her after seeing the flier at her doorstep.

She stared up at the tall building before her, her palms very sweaty due to nervousness.

Anna was clad in a brown long sleeved shirt paired with a brown pencil skirt, on her feet was a black worn out shoe. Slung across her shoulder was the old bag that belonged to her grandmother. Yes, that was how poor her life was.

Last night had been like a dream to her . She had pinched herself countless times thinking she was living a dream but after getting cursed at by her neighbor this morning, she knew it was nothing but the truth.

'You can do this! Just go in there and take care of them! Don't mind anyone that insults you,' She whispered words of encouragement to herself as she took tiny steps into the company.

Luckily for her, the security guards were busy attending to other employees and were oblivious to her presence.

She stepped into the twirling door and was pushed forward into the building.

She stood stiff in her spot as she surveyed the place in awe. She had never seen a building as big and extravagant as this. Well, what was to be expected from the most successful and flourishing company in country A?

She sighed and timidly made her way to the reception office, very much aware of the disdainful stares she was getting from employees of the company.

Anna was accustomed to such looks but it still made her feel uncomfortable. The only thought in her head was just to bury herself in the ground or run far away from the battalion of 'soldiers' eyeing her.

"Good morning, I'm here to....," Before Anna could complete her words which were directed at the skimpily dressed receptionist, she was interrupted.

"Get out, who allowed you in?" The receptionist glared at her, staring at her in disgust and anger.

Anna subconsciously frowned. Although she was accustomed to such an attitude from others, the receptionist's attitude was impolite.

"Excuse me. Would you at least hear me out?" Anna countered calmly, returning the receptionist's unfriendly glare.

The receptionist dramatically sighed as she raised her head, her attention now away from her nails she was decorating seconds ago.

"Let's hear what you have to say. You have two minutes," she huffed.

"I'm here to apply for the job," She stated.

Seconds passed but there was no reaction from the receptionist. Anna was getting more impatient and nervous that the job had been taken until a boisterous laughter was heard. The receptionist cackled loudly, not caring about her 'sweet image'.

"Oh my, what job?Are you blind? Did you see any job vacancy stated here?"

Anna was exasperated, confused about what was happening. Last night, it was clearly written in the flier that she should come here for the job but the situation she found herself in was something beyond her understanding.

Humiliated by the stares and mumurings of few employees that were now gathered around, Anna had no choice but to search through her bag.

She sighed in relief when she found the yellow flier she found at her doorstep last night.

Anna slapped the flier on the table, as she raised her chin at the receptionist, indicating she could take a look at it.

With a skeptical and disgusted look, the receptionist held the tip of the flier and read its content.

"Uhhh.... this. So? Even if this job is vacant, what makes you think you'll be hired?" The receptionist taunted.

Anna sighed in her heart. Of course, she knew she had no chance of getting hired but there was no harm in trying.

"You aren't the one hiring her, are you?" A bespectacled man, 5ft tall, taller than women and also in a dark blue suit walked towards them while glaring at the receptionist.

"Mr... secretary Paul, I was just advicing her," the receptionist grumbled, her haughty behavior nowhere in sight again which didn't go unnoticed by Anna.

Another thing that she took note of was that as soon as the man appeared, the crowd of employees immediately scurried away. She was no fool to not know that the man befire her was someone of a high status in the company. Upon staring at his face properly and recalling the name in which the receptionist addressed him as (Secretary Paul), She realized it was none other than the secretary/personal assistant of the rumored devil who miraculously had three kids.

"Keep your advice to yourself," he replied to the receptionist and turned to Anna.

"Miss, please follow me. My boss has been expecting you," he lied smoothly. Well, what was he to do since he has been threatened by his boss' kids this morning? Anna was nervous as she blushed in embarrassment.

They both walked into the elevator and ten minutes later, they arrived at the topmost floor. Anna couldn't be any more nervous than she currently was.

"Miss, you may go in through this door. Boss is expecting you," Secretary Paul cautiously said as he pointed to the door behind him.

Just from the exterior, Anna knew it was the CEO'S office. She nodded her head, pretended to be calm and knocked twice.

"Come in," a cold and gruff voice was heard and Anna could make out shuffling noises.

She bowed her head, took a deep breath in and pushed the door open.

She had just taken a step into the office when she felt her leg get tightly wrapped.

"Baby, it's you, why are you here?" Anna affectionately asked as she touched Amelia's cheek. This time, Amelia was wearing a white blouse paired with a blue jean skirt and a pair if white expensive canvas. She still looked very beautiful.

"Hehe, I'm here to see someone. Did auntie miss me?" Amelia coquettishly asked.

The two females were oblivious to the dark look on a certain someone's face until they heard his cold voice.

"Are you here for the job or to talk all day?" coldly asked and Anna shivered in fright.

She slowly raised her head and her light brown orbs met with a pair of deep black ones, Black enough to scare a person to death.
