Chapter 6 Chapter 6- So soon

Aminat

I glance around at the living room with boredom. The men are talking about business and women are watching TV.

"Aminat, beta, what's wrong? You look awfully disturbed," mama asks as she diverts her attention from the screen to me.

"Oh, it's nothing," I whisper.

"Nothing? You can tell us," she insists.

I glance over at a confused looking Abdullah. "It's nothing rea--" I get interrupted by my phone ringing.

"Your phone just always seems to cut you off," Sahil says, causing a few laughs.

I let out an embarrassed chuckle before picking it up. "Salam Alaykum, ummi (mom)." I smile.

I don't get up because I don't want them to think that I'm not free around them. I don't want to disrespect them like that.

"Walekum assalam. Your sister is getting married this month, Inshallah."

"What? Ummi, so soon? How does Daneen feel about it? Does she even like him? Did she agree to it?

"Beta, slow down, yes to everything. They've actually been talking ever since last Friday after we introduced them and Allamdulilah he likes her too."

I smile. "Allamdulilah, congrats, ummi. I'll come over probably this week, I have to talk to Daneen anyways."

"Yes, beta, how are your in-laws treating you?"

"Very well, ummi, I'm very good." I smile.

"And you? How is your stubborn, naughty self treating Abdullah?"

I let out a small chuckle. "Trust me, ummi I'm not the one you should be worried about."

Ummi laughs. "Alright, beta, take care, okay? Allah hafiz."

"Allah hafiz, take care you too."

I smile and hang up. I turn to notice everyone staring at me questioningly.

"Deneen's getting married to Ibrahim Ali this month, they both said yes," I explain to them.

Smiles spread across the room. "Allamdulilah that's very good," mama says.

"Does he know her properly?" Sahil asks.

"Why?" I raise an eyebrow.

"I'm just surprised he agreed to cope with her crazy ass for the rest of his life." He shrugs.

"Sahil!" Mama smacks his head, while we all just laugh.

"She's very good actually, crazy at times, but who's not?" I shrug.

"So, you are?" Abdullah raises an eyebrow. "Great to know." A smirk plays on his lips.

My eyes widen, but before they can see my probably red face, I rush out of the living room and into our room.

I close the door and shut my eyes, allowing my breathing to slow down, while they all just laugh harder and harder.
