Chapter Six: Coffee.
I TRIED my best to hide my smile knowing that my plan to seduce Brandon worked. My eyes drifted to his wet lips, and I won’t deny that I am tempted. But then to make it even more effective, I guess stepping back is the best option right now…
“I’m sorry… but I better decline your offer, Sir,” I replied.
Brandon’s lips parted, he looked amazed by how I replied to him. Why? Did he think that I would give in right away? Yes, he is handsome and wealthy but that doesn’t mean he could get whoever woman he wants. If I want to seduce him by giving him sex, I would definitely submit right now. But my goal here is to make him love me. That’s why I should show him that I am not the ‘easy-to-get’ woman he thought.
Using the back of my hand, I brushed off the stain of blood beside my lips. He bit my lower lip and it stung but it is fine. For as long as I know that I am succeeding my plan, a small wound won’t bother me.
“I’m impressed,” he replied. “Is that your strategy?”
My brows arched. “S-strategy?”
He smirked. “Your way of making me want you more.”
I gasped then stepped back, shaking my head. “I didn’t know what you were saying but I am not that kind of woman. I just got hired here and you want me to do that kind of thing with you? Sir, you are my boss but that doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want with me.” I couldn’t help saying. Yes, that’s my plan but it is still humiliating on my part and I should try making it realistic.
Instead of waiting for what he was going to fire back at me, I excused myself and stepped outside. Ales called me twice but I quickly ran to the nearby comfort room to see my lips.
Just as I saw my reflection in the mirror, I saw my blushed face along with the small cut beside my lips. I closed my eyes tightly then held on to the edge of the sink to balance myself after I felt that my knees were weakening. Just by thinking how he kissed me earlier, I am wanting for more. What if my plan didn't work out? What if he didn’t bite on my ‘hard-to-get’ style?
I shook my head trying to get rid of every doubt that I thought. It will work out, and if it won't, I have to start planning on plan B!
After putting on lipstick to hide the small cut on the side of my lips, I quickly went out of the comfort room. When I got back to my table, Ales was still there.
My brow arched. “Did you wait?”
He nodded. “Yeah, I was worried. Did he scold you?” he asked, pointing his lips to Brandon’s office.
I shrugged. “Don’t worry, he didn’t. We’ve just had a little misunderstanding.”
“Good,” he said, then smiled at me. “Should we head out and have lunch? I'm starving.”
“Do you think we still have time?” I chuckled. “Why did you wait for me when you could go first?”
“Let’s go now or we won’t eat for lunch?”
—
THE next days were awkward between me and Brandon. He couldn’t look into my eyes the way he did before. To be honest it is difficult for me. I’m starting to think that he might not bring it up again. I wish I could take back what I have said.
“What’s with the long face?” Mom asked after she placed the cup of coffee in front of me.
I shrugged. “Nothing. I couldn't sleep well these past few nights. Do you have chamomile tea?”
“I’ll buy you a box later,” she said, pulling a chair. “There’s something that’s bothering you, Kayla. I know you better than anyone else. Is this because of Brandon?”
“No…”
I sighed then sipped on the cup of coffee. If Brandon continued to avoid me, I needed to plan over again. Guess trying hard to be a ‘hard-to-get’ isn’t the best way to persuade him.
I was busy scanning Brandon's schedule for today, when Ales came with two cups of coffee in his hand.
“Coffee?” He asked, showing his teeth with his wide smile.
“I had coffee this morning,” I replied. “If I get another cup I would definitely palpitate, sorry.”
“I haven't had coffee!” Milly said.
Ales’ eyes flicked to Milly. “You can have it.”
I almost laughed at how Ales sounded sulking. When he sat down on his swivel chair, I quickly teased him.
“You have a crush on me?” I asked.
Ales blushed. Even without his answer, I knew. Since my first day here, I immediately sensed the way he looked at me.
“I knew it!”
“If I do. Do I have a chance?” he asked.
I curled my shoulder before turning back my attention to the schedule on my folder.
“Just don’t get your hopes up. If you know my story, you wouldn't like me in the first place.”
He was about to reprimanded my answer when Brandon came with a cup of coffee in his hand. We all stood up and greeted him. Usually, he would just greet us back then continue walking through his office but this time, he stopped in front of me then placed the coffee on my table.
“Come to my office,” he said, eyeing me before he continued.
I blinked twice then looked down on the cup of coffee and then to Ales who’s looking at me with his sulking expression.
“I had to accept this, right?”
“He looked like he had a bad morning,” Ales replied.
I shook my head then held on to the cup of coffee before I stood up and walked through Brandon’s office. As soon as I got in, I saw him taking off his coat then he hung it on the rack stand.
“Clear all my schedules today and move it all for the next two days. I have an emergency business trip to New York,” he said.
“Alright, Sir…”
He sat down on his swivel chair then looked up at me. “You have a driver's license, right?”
I nodded. “Yes, Sir, why?”
“Of course, you needed to come with me.”
“What?”
“We’ll stay there for a night so pack things now. Get back here before lunch.”
Startled, I couldn't move after. We’ll stay there for a night… I haven't been on a business trip before, it is my first time. What would my mother think if I suddenly told her that I am going on a business trip with Brandon? Thinking that we’ll be together for the whole day, and we're not even talking, it would definitely be awkward between us! I mean, for sure, we will talk about work-related things but—
“Why are you still standing there? Go get your things or you’ll go there without anything?” he asked.
I snapped after hearing his annoyed question. “Y-yes, Sir!”
Our house is about a fifteen minutes ride from the office and I should hurry. When I got back in the house, Mom was surprised to see me.
“What happened?” she asked.
Huffing, I took in air before I continued walking through my room.
“My boss told me that we have an emergency business trip today. I have to pack some of my things, we’re staying there tonight.”
“What?” Mom asked. “You’ll stay there with him? Just the two of you?”
“Mom, I am his secretary and I should be with him in any work-related things. I’m sure we’ll be sleeping in separate rooms so you shouldn't worry.”
“Kayla, I’m not saying anything. You are overreacting,” Mom chuckled. “Don’t give any other meaning to it.”
“Mom!”
She laughed at me and left me there. Instead of getting bothered by what I was thinking right now, I quickly brought a few clothes and things that I needed. Mom was waiting for me outside my room while I was busy hooking my big backpack on my shoulder.
“Your boss is outside our house,” she said.
My eyes widened. “What? How did he know our address?”
“Maybe, because you submitted a CV back when you applied and he saw it there?”
“I should get going, Mom!”
“Alright, good luck!”
I know my Mom's teasing me, I just shrugged it off because it wasn't the right time to take her playful tease. I was still nervous on how I would survive the drive on our way through New York.
Brandon was leaning on his red car when I got out of our house. He was screaming gorgeous while he’s busy tucking his cuff. Why is he so hot that I couldn't resist it? I shut my eyes then took in a sharp breath. Thankfully, Brent wasn't here. I am not ready for their meetup, at least not now that Brandon doesn't have any hint that he has a son with me.
“You should've just waited for me, Sir…”
“We’re going late,” he replied. “Besides, I wanted to know where you live.”
“What? Why?”
He scanned our house with his critical gaze, before he turned his attention back to me. “I should know, I’m your boss.”
Is it necessary to know your secretary’s house? I didn't know if I should be worried by now. But yeah, I’m worried. What if Brent saw him without noticing the fact that he was his father? I don't want that to happen…
