Chapter 0005

I opened my eyes slowly and smelled the scent of medicine and carbolic. I looked up at the white ceiling of this room, and then I looked around. I was surprised to find my body lying on a hospital bed. I tried to get up, and the figure of Lucas, who had just come from the direction of the door he opened, immediately helped me to sit up.

A female doctor came with him. My head still hurt, but I felt my stomach empty, and I started to feel nauseous.

"What happened to me?" I ventured to ask. One of my hands was attached to an IV.

"You're just exhausted, Miss Alexandra. Your pregnancy requires adequate rest and better nutrition. You should take care of both from now on." The female doctor standing on my right side surprised me. I looked at her with a questioning and disbelieving look.

"Pregnancy? Me?" I asked with apparent disbelief. The female doctor smiled and nodded. She then handed me a piece of paper showing the result of my examination: I was pregnant. My hand gripped the edge of the paper firmly.

"Congratulations to both of you, another doctor will be here in a few hours to examine you, Miss Alexandra." The female doctor walked away, leaving Lucas and me.

"How did this happen? It's impossible to get pregnant just by doing it once. No, it must be a fabrication." I still couldn't believe the success rate was slim; I was sure of it. Even though Lucas was my first man, there was no way our one-night stand could produce results.

I turn to look at Lucas with a pleading gaze because the fear gripping me is so intense because of this fact. I wasn't ready for this kind of life, having a child at this age and finally becoming a mother.

"Lucas, Alpha, please you must be lying, this isn't real! You must want to prank me, right?! How am I going to be a mom? No! You must be deceiving me, right?! You must be- "My chest was tight as my lungs seemed to be clogged. Panicked and frightened, I tried to get down to avoid Lucas, who was trying to calm me down.

"Natalia, calm down, I'll take responsibility, I promised you that! I'll be the father of our child." Lucas's words made me look at him again, and my eyes filled with tears. Then, I cried in his arms. The burden of my life seemed even heavier because of this fact. I felt like life had always been unfair to me, that I had accepted this fate because I had to and didn't deserve to be happy with that choice.

Lucas's hand gently stroked my hair to calm my turbulent panic. His touch on my head made my panic subside slowly and surely. When I started to feel calm and had shed enough of this sadness and fear, I moved away from Lucas' body and wiped my face with the blanket.

"Can I take a short walk around here to get some fresh air?" I asked as my gaze lingered on my hands clutching the blanket.

"Come on, I'll keep you company." Lucas helped me out of bed after he placed the wheelchair next to it. He pushed me out of the room and took me to the garden on the east side of the hospital.

The orange afternoon made me feel comfortable. The cool air makes me smile when it hits my skin. The sunset this afternoon spoiled my eyes with the striking orange colour of the sky.

"It's such a beautiful afternoon, but on the other hand, I worry about what will happen the next day." We were silent for a moment, and I was lost in my thoughts, filled with question marks about the future.

"What are you worried about? You're carrying Alpha's offspringyou'll. You'll be safe with me; you won't lack anything." Lucas finally broke the silence between us. I smiled at that reassurance but felt uncertain about what this man was saying.

My mind thought of something else: even though Lucas could provide me with all the facilities he had, I was just someone with a low position in his flock who could be discarded and forgotten when I was no longer beneficial to his flock.

I suppressed those sad and fearful thoughts from escaping like the stench of garbage.

"Can I be considered a lucky woman?" I didn't know the answer to that question.

"You could say that. Among the many women I've dated, I don't know why none of them were able to conceive my child." I could feel Lucas smiling with disbelief and scorn. You snort. I want to be flattered by what this man said just now, but I don't want to be proud of being pregnant by a playboy like this, especially since he is the boss of my boss's boss.

By Hela! If only I could exchange my fate with another woman, I want to trade it so that I'm not the one in this position. I'm not ready to be a mother.

"I'm honestly not ready to be a mother." I spit out my honest thoughts.

"Then, why did you bet with me that night?" Lucas' question was curious, but it also sounded pressured.

"I told you, it's not just you who wants to take advantage here," I answered Lucas honestly. My reason was not because of feelings but profit and luck.

"You're too confident."

"There's a difference between confidence and courage, Mr. Cassano. I'm brave because I'm in a bind, the situation forces me to make a decision and I need courage even though I have little chance of winning my deal." I swallowed and stared at the orange light in the sky that was beginning to fade and mix with the tinge of darkness.

"You are indeed a brave woman. Some omegas are born with extraordinary courage; perhaps you are one of them." Lucas pecked me on the top of my head. I couldn't help but smile. I took a deep breath and let it out.

"After you are discharged from the hospital, you must be willing to move into the apartment that has been reserved for you until you deliver the baby, you cannot move anywhere else without my approval."

I smiled scornfully. I don't like being ordered around by arrogant people like Lucas or my assistant manager. However, I couldn't act up since the situation required me to obey.

"I know that. Isn't that the basic rule? Your word is an order?!" I confirmed with my face as if splashed with ice water. Lucas moved to face me, and I looked up at him. Lucas placed his hands on my cheeks and kissed me on the lips.

The kiss that afternoon made my heart tremble with a strange sensation for the first time. It was as if the kiss awakened something dormant inside me for a long time.

I kissed him back and enjoyed the rest of the afternoon with Lucas until the sun fully set over the horizon. Lucas takes me back to my room to rest and eat dinner. Lucas even accompanies me to dinner with great care.

"You have nothing to do tonight?" I ask as I finish drinking my vitamins.

"You're kicking me out?" Lucas was casually sitting on the long sofa, switching channels on the television. I looked at him through my lashes.

"Let's just say you must be a very busy man," I guessed, but Lucas smiled briefly.

"Not really. I wanted to be here with you and hear the results." Lucas' gaze was still glued to the television.

"So, you were sure of the results from the start?" I gave Lucas a wary look. Lucas smiled dismissively, and then he turned to look at me.

"Do you trust my instincts? We Alphas always trust our instincts when it comes to choosing something." Lucas moved from the sofa towards me, his eyes changing as he stared at me, like a savage wolf staring at its prey. I inched with small movements to extend the distance but to no avail. Lucas locked me up and made me lie down.

"Including in choosing prey. Potential prey will make us Alphas feel satisfied due to our sharply enhanced intuition." Lucas shortened the distance between our faces. My heart was pounding like the heart of a wild horse galloping.

"And you are a potential prey that satisfies my intuition." Lucas lowered his sensual gaze to my lips, then slowly found them with his.

Lucas pulls me from my current position to kiss my jaw and neck. I'm less like a puppet submitting to the control of his touch on my body. Lucas' hands moved to unbutton my shirt at the top, but I managed to stop him.

"Let me rest tonight because I need it." I finally had a reasonable excuse to keep Lucas from fucking me in the hospital.
