Shirley's POV
I felt an ache around my chest, the pain in her tone. Just the way I felt when Greg looked at someone else, not me.
The only difference is that Larry isn't violent towards her, but Greg, he's something else.
I really did not know about his background, but then Evelyn knew everything about Larry.
It was there, the love in her eyes. What was I thinking? I should fall in love because life has hit me so hard in that aspect.
"That her parents never break up" she concluded with a bright smile at me as tears clouded her eyes.
Her words sink into me as I recoil inside.
It made me lower my eyes on my stomach. I had an unborn child. It was best he didn't know his father, who chose someone else over me.
Staring at her reminded me of my life with Greg. I shouldn't ruin another marriage for my happiness.
After tonight, I promise myself to leave.
Greg's POV
I stared at the write-up behind the divorce papers. Rolling my eyes, I stared at the woman who was chuckling and placing her orders.
What have I done? I need to find her. Distinctive voices rang in my ears and her voice faded.
The violin which plays from a corner, the cheers of the waitress, the curious gaze of everyone staring at me.
I paid them all for one thing, to surprise Lena on this day, but guilt was eating me up.
Shirley was the reason I got to walk again, the reason I believed in myself.
She was special, but then I grew out of love. She should have told me that we were expecting.
After three years of being together with no baby coming and now, she was pregnant.
Shirley wasn't one who would lie and I believe her.
"Love?" Lena's voice came back as she tried to touch my hand, but I stood up, looking confused, as though the spell cast on me had fallen off.
I must find Shirley!
"Babe? " "What's wrong?" Lena asked, and I shook my head, moving back.
This was meant to be a proposal, but then I couldn't. I just didn't want my baby to live on without a father.
It would be terrible, just like the affair I had with someone before her.
I couldn't say any words to Lena as I had grief in my heart. I needed my baby alive.
I paced out of the restaurant, abandoning her despite the fact that she was calling out to me.
Hastily, I got into my car, packed outside, to begin my research. My spies were the best for this job.
At last, I heard of her whereabouts, somewhere I had abandoned years ago.
For her sake and my child, precisely, I never mind returning to my past.
I arrived at Wolverine society, with one thing in mind, to take her tonight.
However, I never expected she'd be a member of my household. The royal family.
The story wasn't clear, but I heard she did some miracles on my father, and then it got her the name, the great physician.
My arrival home stirred some commotion. I was everyone's favorite and no one would deny not seeing me.
The news must have gotten to my father that his prodigal son was back.
I had gotten to the gates of the palace, but then I found him, Larry.
I knew that feeling, that I was back for the throne. No, politics wasn't my ordeal; I was here for my wife.
He had frowned at me, more like hate. We were never close. Larry was never close to anyone.
I tried to appear friendly due to my reputation and not appear like a villain.
Everyone's watching.
"What are you doing here?" he began and I scoffed. It had been an exhausting ride and the welcome I get is that.
He was pissing me off. Larry was the last person I expected to meet.
"It's my home, I can be anywhere I like," I responded with a silent hiss, and he gawped at me.
His eyes glare at me with so much loathe in them.
He had obstructed the path and I know if it was his wish, he wouldn't let me in.
He almost said something else to me when I heard my father's voice drawing closer.
I knew it would hurt Larry, to see how pleased my father would be to receive me into his arms.
"Whatever you're looking for isn't here, leave" he growled at me, and I rolled my eyes in contempt.
I'm sure Shirley's here. He must have heard of her because she healed father of his illness.
I just ignored him as I was being stressed, but he was obstructing my path. He can be scary most times, when he's being serious.
I didn't need to stress, as my father would vindicate me. Speaking of which, he appeared from behind Larry.
His full face brightens as he spreads his arms to welcome me.
He misses me so much and he never hides his affection. I saw Larry's reaction: jealousy, disappointment and betrayal.
Father would never love him.
I was welcomed inside as he asked me for my farewell. As always, father intends to throw a feast for me.
I rejected it as I did not intend to spend a day here. Who knows, Larry could stab me in my sleep.
Father would grant anything I wanted, wrong or right. I made my intention known quickly that I had come over for someone.
He didn't ask me further and approved I could take whosoever I came for, as long as he gets to see me from time to time.
Father and I didn't go further when I crossed paths with her.
Shirley, I knew I'd find her. She was opposite us, in haste, trouble wore on her, and she was anxious too.
She hadn't noticed me and my father was filling my ears with politics, which I'd never pay interest to even in the nearest future.
"There she is, father" I declared, drawing his attention to where she was.
