Chapter 2

I was a player.

Seven years ago, I was brought to this world by the system to conquer Lincoln.

At that time, Lincoln had not yet been recognized by the Wilson family. He was a pitiful kid bullied at school.

To make my strategy easier, I enrolled in the same school and became the bully who picked on him.

The system said that redemption scripts were the easiest to succeed with and had the least side effects on the player.

I believed the system and slowly healed Lincoln bit by bit.

At first, Lincoln was very hostile towards me, but my persistence let his guard down, thawing the ice in his heart. Even ice could melt with enough warmth, the same as a human’s heart.

I began to treat Lincoln well without reservation. I would avenge him when others bullied him.

When he was hungry, I would buy him food even if it meant going hungry myself.

I still remembered when he casually mentioned at seventeen that he had never celebrated a birthday in his life.

So on my day off, I worked at a restaurant washing dishes and serving food to earn money just to buy a birthday cake and give him a proper celebration.

But in the end, I messed it up.

On my way to find Lincoln, I tripped and dropped the cake, ruining it completely.

I scratched my head in guilt as I apologized, "Sorry, I wanted to surprise you, but there was an accident. Don't worry. When I have money in the future, I'll buy you a bigger and better cake."

Lincoln called me an idiot. He didn't respond and just turned back to his shabby little house.

I thought he was angry, but after a while, he came out and said, "Sit down."

Lincoln carefully bandaged the wound on my leg, his eyes full of concern.

That day we sat in front of Lincoln's shabby house and finished the entire cake together.

Lincoln and I promised each other to spend every birthday together from then on.

But now Lincoln went back on his word.
