Chapter Six
To Kill a Pack
Asher
"What's up, buddy?" Ethan's voice called out, causing me to flinch.
"Have you ever heard of this thing called knocking?" I groaned, and he let out a muffled chuckle as he strode casually towards me.
Apart from my mother, Ethan was the only other person who wasn't scared or intimidated by me. Ethan and I have been best friends since I could remember. We did all our trainings together and shared all our deepest secrets.
"So your mum told me you didn't like the idea of a chosen mate." He mumbled, placing a hand on my left shoulder.
"Yeah, and I am guessing she sent you to convince me." I growled, simmering with frustration and anger.
"Chill, bro. I'm not here for war." He laughed, raising his hands above his head.
"How are things going with the Moon Crest Pack? Have you found anything that could help us bring them down?". I asked abruptly, and a smile curled at the corners of his lips. He despised the pack as much as I did.
"I have a plan that will blow your mind. And trust me, you don't need to worry about anything. My men and I will take care of everything by midnight, and after today you will never have to worry about that stupid pack again". He smiled widely, nudging me to join him.
For as long as I have known Ethan, I could vouch that his big plan involved destroying the entire Moon Crest Pack. This was something I had always wanted, so why did the thought suddenly infuriate me?
Just then my mind reeled back to the strange wolf girl from days ago. I haven't been myself since I saw her, and no matter how hard I denied it, I knew deep down that part of the reason I refused to choose a mate from the cavern was because of her.
Fuck. I had to stop thinking about her; she wasn't even the prettiest girl I had seen. But then again, she was strange; she had detected my scent despite the fact that it was masked. I had to find her. I had to know how she detected my scent and, more importantly, find out why I was so smitten by her.
"Count me in. I will be tagging along with you and your men". I let out, and Ethan stroked me with a questioning glare.
"What? I can't tag along?"
"First you reject choosing a mate from the cavern despite knowing it is for the growth of the cavern. Secondly, you didn't get excited about us finally bringing the Moon Crest Pack down. Thirdly, you've been drifting off to dreamland since I strode in, and now you want to tag along despite the fact that I told you we have everything covered. Tell me, bro, what's going on"?
"Nothing. I just want to tag along. Perhaps that's the least I could do for my brother". I half lied, still not understanding why I was so concerned about saving her.
"You can only come with us on one condition." He sighed, and I arched my brows at him.
"You will need to accept the council decision of a chosen mate." He spit, and I had to restrain myself from slamming him across the wall.
"So I was right about my mum sending you to convince me.".
"You know it's all for the cavern. So do we have a deal?".
"Fine. Is a deal".
Midnight came by pretty fast, and we were already in the Moon Crest Pack. Ethan and his men had split to plant explosives around the pack while I waited outside the royal pack house where all the wolves were gathered for the mating ceremony of the future Alpha and Luna. All, except my little wolf, I haven't seen her since I arrived.
Just then Ethan mindlinked me.
"Bro, we need to get the fuck out of this pack. The explosives have been installed".
"Fuck it."
"What's Wrong"
"The cavern ring. It fell off.
"What the fuck, bro? You know how important that ring is.".
"I will be right behind you guys. I need to find where it dropped". I hissed, and I could hear Ethan groan through the mindlink.
"Fine, but if you don't find it within the next five minutes run out, your life is more important". He growled, closing our mind link.
As soon as the mindlink disconnected, I knew I had to start searching for her, or else it'd be too late. It was already too late and I didn't have a good feeling about it.
Just then, someone rushed to the stage and whispered something to Luna; a cruel smile curled at the corners of her lips, and our eyes met.
Those venomous green eyes—I'd seen them before, but I can't recall where. Her smile slowly faded as she locked eyes with me. It was almost like she could see through me and could detect who I truly was.
Her venomous eyes grew fifty shades darker, and I caught a flicker of a shadow in her eyes. The Luna was a demon.
Boom!!!
The entire building exploded.
People screamed, running helter skelter.
A wolfbane confinement that knocked off from the stage, colliding against a tree, was the first thing I noticed.
And then that's when it hit me. My little wolf. She might be the one in there.
Without wasting a second, I raced through the thick black plumes rising over the pack lands and down to the confinement, ripping it open. My heart nearly flew open as my little wolf fell off the confinement, her head hanging back lifelessly.
