Chapter 6: His wife

Vivienne's POV

By the time he was standing in front of me, he was all wet. I could see him well now. He was tall, his dark hair slightly tousled, and raindrops glistened on his strong jawline. Despite being wet, he exuded an air of charm. The raindrops cascaded down his broad shoulders, accentuating his muscular physique. His intense gaze reminded me of Alexander.

I remembered who he was now, the customer from the bar, but still, I wasn't in the mood to talk to anyone.

“I said you should leave me alone,” I stated firmly, not ready to give him a chance to speak again.

“I heard that,” he answered almost immediately.

“So, why are you…” Before I could finish speaking, he lifted me up from the bench and started walking towards the car.

I tried to struggle with him, but instead, his grip tightened.

“Stop making it hard for yourself. I don't intend to drop you,” he said, opening the car door and placing me in the seat.

He closed the door and sat in the driver's seat.

“I have just one question to ask you: Where should I drop you off?”

His question surprised me. I had been thinking of ways to ask him to shut up or mind his own business, but hearing this question took me off guard. “So, he doesn't want to know why I was there in the rain? Wow.”

“The least you can do is answer me,” he said loudly, bringing me out of my thoughts.

“Lens Hospital,” I replied in a very low voice, and he started the car.

The journey to the hospital was hushed. I began to wonder if he was angry or if that was just his demeanor. But how could he shift from wanting to know everything earlier to now wanting to hear nothing?

“We're here. Take this,” he said, stretching the umbrella towards me. I hesitated, but I finally took it.

“You can return it anytime,” he said as I opened the door to get out, and I just nodded.

The noise from my neighbor's room woke me up, leaving me with a pounding headache. I had to work earlier today. I was scared at first, but I needed the money. I had to get things for my sister, who was just healing. Aside from the old woman who shouted at me for not coming for days, everything else seemed normal.

It had been three days since my sister was discharged. I'd been having the best of days without a phone, the sudden threats, and especially I could run from Alexander and his weird marriage plans. As much as I tried to distract myself, I kept remembering him—the way he talked, his face, his body, and how he looked at me.

“Should I just see him tomorrow?” I thought, but I shook my head, especially not after what happened the last time I was there. I hadn't recovered from the embarrassment.

There was a knock on the door, and I quickly went to check who it was. On getting there, I saw Jack, one of the workers from the bar. I had forgotten my keys and begged him to help me bring them over if he could.

“Thank you, Jack,” I said, shutting the door to finally resume the only thing I'd been doing to waste time since I lost my phone. I tried to struggle with the design, but I couldn't come up with something.

“A walk should help,” I said, grabbing my jacket and purse.

“Amy, I need to step out for some minutes,” I said loudly as I opened the door. But as I turned to go outside, I froze at that spot. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

He was standing at the door, looking like a Greek god as usual. Different questions were running through my mind, but I couldn't bring myself to ask any.

“How… How…" I finally tried to ask, but I couldn't even understand what I wanted to ask him.

“Oh! How did I find your house? Surprised, huh?” he said, breaking the silence.

“You think you can just play me and run away? We had an agreement. You promised to do it if I helped you, is it because I didn't get you to sign?" he asked.

“I know you…” I tried to say.

“I'm not done talking to you, Vivienne,” he interrupted me in a cold voice.

“What did you take me for? A fool? Oh yeah, you can call me that—a fool who didn't force you to sign a contract before treating your sister, a fool who you think you could block after the help. Nice one, Vivienne,” he said, grinning widely.

“You found me now, so what do you want to do to me? Arrest me?” I replied, looking straight into his eyes with a blank face.

“Oh really? Arrest you? Are you sure you want that? That will be for fraud and murder. Okay then, see you around,” he said, turning and walking away.

“Are you threatening me?” I asked loud enough for him to hear, but he didn't respond.

I watched him as he walked down the stairs. He didn't look like he was joking. If he goes to the police, he will definitely get me behind bars and get his money back. I honestly don't have that kind of money now.

Without thinking further, I ran after him. Luckily for me, he was still around the building.

“Alexander! Alexander!” I called loudly, but he didn't answer. I removed my shoes as they were preventing me from running faster.

“Wait,” I said loudly, pulling him from behind. Just as he was about to turn, my hand slipped from his suit. I was almost on the floor when I felt his hands on my waist. Breathing heavily, I looked into his deep brown eyes without breaking eye contact. His lips were very inviting, and the memory of our first kiss crossed my mind. Before I knew it, I was smiling.

“What's funny?” he said, breaking the silence, and I quickly moved away from him.

“Thank you,” I said, adjusting my top.

“I saw it already,” he said, walking towards his car.

“Fuck you,” I cursed under my breath, but I still had to chase after him.

“Hold on, I can explain. I was not avoiding you. I lost my phone the last time I came to your office, and I would rather not come back there.”

“Okay,” he said, continuing to walk.

“Okay, I will sign it,” I said loudly. He stopped walking and turned to me.

“Yes, I will sign it as long as you're not calling the police,” I repeated.

“Sure,” he replied, opening the door to his car and entering.

“Sure? What was that supposed to mean? How can someone be this wicked? Is he leaving me here? I wasn't even all wrong, so why is he acting this way?” I thought as I stood there looking at the car.

“Get into the car,” he said loudly, interrupting my thoughts.

I walked gently inside the car, and before I could say anything, he stretched an envelope to me. I opened it and understood, signing it immediately. There was nothing to think about. I knew I was married since the day I agreed he should pay for my sister's bills.

“Here,” I said, stretching it to him.

“Thank you, my wife,” he said, laughing. As cringe as it sounded, it was the truth; I was now married to him.
