Foreword:This is a very big book, bigger by itself than most three-book trilogies, yet most of my readers tend to blast through it in the shortest time possible and then search for the sequel, which is now available.This book was written with chapters that are much longer than the longest chapter that HiNovel allows, so I’ve had to divide the original chapters into smaller chapters. So the original chapters have been renamed as parts (the original Chapter 1 is now Part 1, the original Chapter 2 is now Part 2, etc.) The places where the new chapters begin and end will not always make sense with the story.Those who read fantasy primarily for the action should be aware that there’s enough action sequences in this novel to fill most paperbacks by themselves, but most of them take place in the last third of the book.In order to give each character a distinct personality, often it’s necessary to have each of them speak with their own individual manner. Often this doesn’t conform perfectly with Proper English, especially in the cases of children and those speaking a second language, though it’s always easily understandable. Other elements of my style that the reader should note: I usually use italics to indicate quoted sentences that are telepathically or psionicly communicated, but HiNovel does not permit the use of italics, so in my Fantasy books here you will have to judge from the context whether each sentence is spoken aloud, or mind-to-mind which is also called psionics.I use ALL CAPITALS occasionally to indicate yelling or great loudness, whether the words are spoken or telepathic; volume and intensity being distinct qualities.In this story, many common words are also the names of magic spells, such as Sending, Flight, and Speaking, or have traditionally had highly religious connotations like The Source, and those words are capitalized to indicate this.I don’t always agree with or follow Proper English, so if you notice that an element of my style that I use consistently is not correct in Proper English, know that it’s not a mistake, it’s my writing style.Wayne Edward Clarke,23 February 2021.
